Rehearsal Period: October 20th – November 14

Wednesdays to Fridays: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Saturday October 25 10:00 AM-6:00 PM

Show Period: November 14th – December 22nd

Wednesdays & Thursdays: 12:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Saturdays: 6:30PM-10:30PM

Sundays November 16,23 and 30: 6:00pm-9:00pm

About the Chemainus Theatre Festival:

The Chemainus Theatre Festival is a not-for-profit professional theatre company located on Vancouver Island. Since opening the doors to its 274 seat venue in 1993, annual attendance has grown to over 40,000 patrons per season. In addition to producing live, professional theatre, the Chemainus Theatre experience also includes the Playbill Dining Room, Fireside Lounge and Gallery Gift Shop.

Position Overview:

The job is supervising the child/ children (they're double casting the child): ensuring their safety, managing breaks, meals, and rest in a safe area. They also help the child prepare for scenes by practicing lines, act as a liaison between production and the child's parents and ensure ITA requirements for child labor are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision and Safety:

The childminder keeps a constant watch over the child, ensuring they are within sight and hearing range of their parent, guardian, or the childminder. They also provide a safe, comfortable space for the child to rest and play when not working on set.

Child's Needs:

They provide food, drinks, and breaks, structure waiting times, and help the child with personal hygiene.

Scene Preparation:

The childminder assists the child with practicing lines, reviewing scripts, and preparing for scenes, offering companionship and quiet games as an alternative.

Logistics and Coordination:

They escort the child to and from wardrobe & the washroom during rehearsals. During the shows & tech, escorting the child to and from the dressing room/ green room to the stage. Handing the child off to the parents at the end of the night.

Equity & Legal Compliance:

Logging when breaks happen & hours.

They collect the child from their parents at the beginning of the child's day then hand the child back to their parents at the end of the day. They make sure that the child is never alone with someone who isn't the childminder. If the child minder needs a break, they can have one, they just need to pick their moment thoughtfully and make sure SM knows. They escort the child around backstage during the show, making sure they're in the correct costume, have the correct props.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Vulnerable Sector Check: A current and valid vulnerable sector check is required.
