Job Overview:
The Responsible Adult plays an essential support role in the daily operations of a childcare center, with a focus on maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children. Under the supervision of center leadership, the Responsible Adult assists with the care and supervision of children, perform cleaning and organizing tasks, and is directly responsible for afterschool pick-up and supporting the center's afterschool program.
This role is ideal for a mature, dependable individual with a genuine interest in working with children and contributing to their daily care and well-being.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Childcare Support
- Assist in supervising children during indoor and outdoor activities throughout the day.
- Help with meal and snack preparation and assist children during mealtimes.
- Support children with basic personal needs (e.g., handwashing, dressing, toileting).
- Engage with children through play, creative activities, and conversation.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all children.
- Monitor children's behavior and report any concerns to the supervising educator.
Afterschool Program
- Be responsible for picking up children from designated schools and transporting or escorting them safely back to the center (on foot, by van, or other approved methods, depending on center procedures).
- Take attendance and ensure all children are accounted for during pick-up and upon arrival at the center.
- Supervise and engage children in the afterschool program, including activities such as crafts, homework support, games, and outdoor play.
- Maintain a calm, organized environment during the afterschool period.
- Communicate with families as needed regarding pick-up or afterschool activities.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all areas used by children are safe, clean, and properly maintained.
- Follow and implement the center's health and safety procedures, including cleaning protocols and emergency responses.
- Sanitize toys, surfaces, and shared materials regularly.
- Monitor for and report any health concerns or incidents immediately.
Cleaning & Organization
- Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces.
- Assist with laundry duties (bedding, towels, children's clothing).
- Keep playrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and storage areas tidy and organized.
- Restock supplies such as tissues, hand soap, and cleaning products as needed.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with educators and other staff to maintain daily routines and programming.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions when required.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, staff, and parents.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.85-$19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
