Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging - UVic Site
Background
The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) is a unique national study focusing on aging in Canada. Over 50,000 individuals aged 45 years and older are being followed for 20 years. The University of Victoria (UVic) supports 1 of 11 comprehensive data collection sites. Information is being collected from participants using a combination of interviews and physical assessments. This role involves conducting in-person interviews with study participants in participants' own homes, collecting data, and ensuring adherence to study protocols. This is an ideal position for someone with a flexible schedule who enjoys working with older adults.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Maintaining participant confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
- Booking and managing interviews and responding to inquiries using a home office
- Conducting in-person interviews at participants' homes throughout Southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia
- Following standard operating procedures to obtain accurate questionnaire data from study participants
- Entering participant data and information accurately using study specific software programs
- Complying with quality standards according to standard operating procedures
- Completing, as paid work, the required training for the position
- Discussing any questions or concerns related to the project and/or study participants with the Site Coordinator
Requirements and Skills
- Access to personal transportation
- Reliable and professional, able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Able to multi-task and adapt to changing work environments
- Strong computer skills and adaptability with hardware and software in a PC environment
- Able to adapt to technological changes
- Willing to travel to participants' homes and other private locations throughout the South Island
- Research experience is an asset
- Experience working with older adults is an asset
Terms of employment
- This grant-funded role is part-time, requiring a minimum weekly commitment of 18 hours, potentially increasing to 22 hours of work per week, and is set to continue through December 31, 2026, with the potential for a shift to full-time employment during the contract term, and the potential for renewal.
- The successful applicant will undergo a vulnerable record check before interviewing participants.
- Salary is based on the number of complete interviews. Base rate is $23.00 to $25.00 per hour.
