Intermediate–Senior Backend Developer and DevOps Engineer

Sera4 is a Canadian leader in identity and access control, building the Teleporte ecosystem that combines hardware, mobile, and cloud to secure critical infrastructure worldwide.

We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Backend Developer with DevOps expertise to join our Cloud / On-Prem Engineering team. You'll help build and scale the core backend services that power our Teleporte platform.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain backend services in and Ruby on Rails (bonus for Go).
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure reliability.
  • Collaborate across hardware, mobile, and product teams to deliver seamless solutions.
  • Balance backend development with DevOps responsibilities as the role evolves.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong in and/or Ruby on Rails; Go is a +plus.
  • Solid Linux + Cloud DevOps skills (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar).
  • Proven experience with Docker and CI/CD workflows.
  • Familiarity with microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on with AI coding tools like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Must be based in Canada and able to come to the Waterloo, ON office _occasionally _
  • Local candidates given priority

Nice to have

  • Kubernetes, Terraform, or Helm.
  • Security best practices for SaaS/on-prem.
  • Experience in IoT or hardware + software environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001
