The Mechanical Testing Services Team works closely with clients in the electric utility, automotive, electronics, and other
industries to test new product designs and conduct failure analyses when problems arise. Tests are conducted to evaluate
the performance of a wide variety of materials, components, and systems. Testing includes: vibration/shock, environmental,
combined vibration and environmental (HALT/HASS), tension and compression. Tests are typically conducted according to
industry standards set by ANSI, ASTM, CSA, IEC, IEEE, ISO, SAE and others. Custom, non-standard tests are a specialty.
Mechanical Testing Services also offers clients on-site field testing of equipment and structures such as hydroelectric
installations, rotating machinery, and bridges. With our long and trusted history in the industry, the Mechanical Testing
Services Group's R&D expertise is committed to help clients determine what tests to conduct and, if necessary, to develop
new advanced test methods.

What you'll do
Under the supervision of the Team Lead of Mechanical Testing Services, the successful candidate will work alongside
Engineers and Technologists to provide technical and professional leadership in delivering projects.
- Lead and execute mechanical test projects in accordance with standards such as ANSI, ASTM, CSA, IEC, IEEE, ISO,
SAE
- Perform engineering tasks to ensure they are completed to the standards required within the agreed timescales and
budget.
- Effectively engage with multiple clients and contractors and to ensure the highest level of customer service is achieved.
- Create technical project proposals to ensure that client requirements are accurately defined.
- Prepare Engineering reports as needed for projects.
- Propose and uphold quality improvements and establish safety-focused test processes and programs.
- Research standards, online material and other sources of information to quickly understand client needs and meet
technical requirements.
- Design and build custom test equipment and data acquisition systems when needed under supervision of senior
engineers.
- Develop laboratory processes, procedures, and maintenance improvement.
- May be required to attend seminars, courses, meetings, and conferences to address engineering problems in area of
expertise.
- Maintain professional relationships with other departments, outside consultants, contractors and suppliers in order to
share relevant information and resolve issues of concern.
- Review and align with the broader corporate objectives such as safety, quality and environment management.
What you bring
Graduate of Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics degree from a recognized University
Registration (or ability to immediately register as a Professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (i.e.,
non-British Columbia registrations are acceptable as long as there is an ability to immediately transfer the accreditation).
Minimum of four years' experience working in relevant industries, related Co-op experience is acceptable.
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience on test set-up and prototyping.
Broad knowledge of mechanical engineering principles such as strength of materials, machine design, fluids dynamics,
thermodynamics, vibration, statics and dynamics and structures.
