The City of Yellowknife - Planning and Environment Division is growing with new initiatives and transformative projects that will shape Yellowknife's future. To meet this exciting demand, the department is seeking two talented Senior Planner professionals who are ready to lead and contribute to shaping our evolving urban landscape.

Be part of a forward-thinking team where your work will have a lasting impact As a Senior Planner, reporting to the Manager, Planning and Environment, you will bring strategic vision, leadership, and expert planning skills to guide complex projects and policy development. In this role, you will:

Lead major planning and development projects that align with the City's short- and long-term strategic goals.Make critical recommendations on complex development permits and prepare policy and bylaw documents for public review and Council approval.Conduct research, provide data-driven recommendations, and deliver impactful reports that shape municipal strategies.Mentor and guide junior staff to foster professional growth and ensure effective implementation of policies and best practices.

To excel in this role, the position requires:

A university degree in urban and regional planning or a related field.A minimum of six years of planning experience, preferably within a municipal government setting.Proven ability to create and present visual design aids using tools like ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and advanced rendering software.Strong relationship-building skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while providing mentorship to colleagues.Full membership in good standing with CIP and APPI.A valid NWT Class 5 Driver's License.

The City of Yellowknife offers a starting salary of $111,875, as well as a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totalling $450, and a defined benefit pension plan.
