Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Driller to join our team in a dynamic and challenging environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in operating various types of heavy equipment and possess strong mechanical knowledge. This role involves working on construction sites, performing horizontal drilling, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of drilling equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Drill Operations: Set up, operate, and monitor HDD rigs (e.g., Vermeer/Ditch Witch) to complete pilot bores, reaming, and product pullbacks for 25–125 mm conduit and multi-duct.
- Locating & Tracking: Work with the Locator to plan bore paths; interpret utility maps, locates, and electronic tracking to avoid conflicts; adjust alignment and depth in real time.
- Fluid Management: Mix, monitor, and maintain drilling fluid properties; manage returns and containment; prevent and respond to inadvertent returns (frac-outs).
- Product Installation: Pull in conduits/ducts, install pulling eyes/swivels, verify integrity (mandrel/rope), and prepare for cable jetting/blowing.
- Site Readiness & Restoration: Lead set-up, traffic control interface, and safe access; ensure pits are shored as needed; backfill/restore to municipal standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow OHSA/Book 7 traffic control, utility-owner requirements, and company SOPs; complete tailboards, FLHAs, and near-miss/incident reports.
- Quality & Documentation: Maintain as-builts, depth/offset records, drill shot logs, mud volumes, and daily production reports; support client inspections.
- Equipment Care: Perform pre-trip inspections; coordinate routine service, repairs, and tooling inventory (reamers, bits, housings, sonde, rods).
Qualifications
- Experience: 2–5+ years operating HDD rigs for telecom/civil underground; strong record of zero utility strikes and on-time delivery.
- Technical: Proficient with locating systems (e.g., DigiTrak/Subsite), bore planning, and reading utility locates/as-built drawings.
- Safety Tickets: Valid WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, Confined Space (as required); Book 7 awareness. Ground Disturbance an asset.
- Licences: Valid Az/Dz licence; (for mud vac/water truck or equipment moves).
- Physical: Able to lift 50–75 lb, work outdoors in all weather, and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Nice to Have: Vermeer/Ditch Witch OEM training; experience with mud recyclers, vacs, mini-ex/skid steer; knowledge of municipal restoration standards.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $37.50-$39.00 per hour
Expected hours: 50 – 55 per week
