Purpose

The Temporary Finance Clerk is a position within the Finance Department, directly reporting to the Comptroller at Chalice (Canada), and is primarily responsible for processing donations in a highly computerized environment as well as for communicating with donors, verbally and in writing, and contributes to the faith and prayer-filled environment at Chalice while upholding Chalice's Catholic values and mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the mission of Chalice.
  • Opening and sorting donations that arrive via mail.
  • Process donations using computer software.
  • Reconcile daily transaction records.
  • Communicate with donors verbally via telephone and in writing.
  • Assist in other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Experience with transaction processing and data entry.
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office 365.
  • Outstanding spoken and written English is mandatory.
  • Training and experience in a customer service environment, including how to effectively speak to donors on the phone.
  • Knowledge of donor or customer database systems would be an asset.
  • Experience working/volunteering for a not-for-profit or charitable organization would be an asset.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Critical eye for detail.
  • Reliable.
  • Quick learner; enjoy working in a service-focused, fast-paced learning organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Have excellent time management, organizational, task planning and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to adapt quickly to changing requirements.

Professional Development

  • Attend training sessions, and workshops as required.
  • Participate in research and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Working Conditions and Benefits

  • Temporary, full-time (40 or 30 hours per week), and part-time (20 hours per week) positions available
  • Start date is, October 20, 2025, and end date is January 23, 2026.
  • The wage for this position is $20 per hour, with paid vacation.
  • Work in a standard office setting at our Bedford, Nova Scotia location.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Working in a faith-based, prayer-filled environment, including daily prayer participation at 8:30am.
