Prairie North Const. Ltd. Position Summary: Civil Estimator

Our Civil Estimator will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing project contracts, scope of work, drawings, specifications, standards, and other documents
  • Performing civil takeoff of drawings and bills of material
  • The accurate and timely preparation of full-cost heavy civil estimates for projects including materials, equipment, labour and subcontractors
  • Review and establishment of unit costs, labour rates, equipment rates, productivity factors and location impacts
  • Risk assessments when bidding and estimating on tender packages
  • Compiling bid/proposal packages
  • Creating Execution Plans and Project Schedules
  • Defining Resource Allocation
  • Chair internal pre-tender meetings, estimate reviews, and tender closing meetings
  • Assist in developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Codes
  • Oversee project initiation and handover to Operations
  • Identify and develop policies and procedures for improved estimating processes
  • Participate in project close out report and conduct lessons learned workshops
  • Conduct variance reports to track validity of Estimates and actual productivity

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of estimating experience in Light/Heavy Civil industry required
  • Knowledge and Competency of Microsoft Office suite applications required
  • Project management and/or field supervisory experience considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 Scheduling software considered an asset
  • Familiarity with B2W Estimate software considered an asset
  • Ability to develop professional relationships with customer representatives and officials from local agencies
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
  • Strong communication skills, both one-on-one and in group settings within and outside the organization
