The Roberts/Smart Centre (RSC) is looking for enthusiastic experienced and highly skilled people. Join a team that is small enough for you to make a difference but large enough to improve the province's youth mental health.

RSC provides mental health treatment programs for Ottawa-based youth and youth throughout the province. We serve youth through a family-centred, inclusive and community-based approach.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES of a YOUTH COUNSELLOR (In-person position in Ottawa):

Responsible for implementing mental health treatment plans on a daily basis to all youth in RSC. This includes assisting youth to gain the skills they need to succeed in life: live-in care, school and community milieus.

These responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining positive, therapeutic rapport with youth.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of the youth's treatment plan.
  • Participating in the establishment and implementation of day, evening and/or home-based intervention programs and strategies.
  • Liaising and communicating with families, community partners and stakeholders, schools, collateral agencies and the Centre's own internal programs.
  • Participating in recreational/leisure time programs and summer camp activities (and having fun).
  • Facilitating and providing guidance to assist youth to access community resources.
  • Providing an environment in which youth can achieve an appropriate level of living skills, including problem solving, organizational and study skills.
  • Ensuring proper administration of medication as prescribed by a physician, according to policies and procedures and physician's directions.
  • Ensuring the house is maintained and is clean, on a daily basis, in order to ensure a therapeutic milieu at all times.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA:

  • A CAAT diploma, University degree or equivalent - must be in a related field to providing mental health services to youth and families.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth with moderate to severe behavioural challenges in a Live-in treatment environment or school and/or community environment.
  • Must pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) course provided by RSC.
  • 1st Aid/CPR 'C' certification from a recognized provider.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Welfare Check, Medical clearance (up to date immunizations and ability to work with high-risk youth).
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision.
  • A valid driver's license and driving record is a requirement.

Responsabilites principales d'un conseiller Auprès des Jeunes (Poste en personne à Ottawa):

En collaboration avec l'équipe de traitement (conseillers auprès des jeunes, cliniciens, et coordonnateurs), le conseiller auprès des jeunes est responsable de la mise en œuvre des plans de traitement en santé mentale au quotidien avec tous les jeunes du CSR. Il s'agit notamment d'aider les jeunes à acquérir les compétences dont ils ont besoin pour réussir dans la vie, que ce soit dans le cadre de l'hébergement, à l'école ou dans la communauté.

Ces responsabilités comprennent :

  • Établir et maintenir un rapport positif et thérapeutique avec les jeunes.
  • Participer à l'élaboration et à la réalisation du plan de traitement du jeune.
  • Contribuer à l'élaboration et à la mise en œuvre de programmes et de stratégies d'intervention internes.
  • Assurer la liaison et la communication avec les familles, les partenaires communautaires et les parties prenantes, les écoles, les agences collatérales et les programmes internes du centre.
  • Participer à des programmes de loisirs et à des activités de camp d'été (et s'amuser )
  • Aciliter et fournir des conseils pour aider les jeunes à accéder aux ressources communautaires.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA:

  • Diplôme d'un collège d'arts appliqués et de technologie, diplôme universitaire ou équivalent - doit être dans un domaine lié à la prestation de services de santé mentale aux jeunes et aux familles.
  • Expérience pratique avec des jeunes ayant des problèmes de comportement modérés à graves dans un environnement de traitement avec hébergement et/ou un environnement scolaire et/ou communautaire.
  • Doit réussir un cours d'intervention thérapeutique en situation de crise (TCI) offert par la CRS (nous remboursons les heures de cours une fois qu'un conseiller auprès des jeunes est embauché).
  • Certification secourisme, niveau C obtenu auprès d'un fournisseur reconnu.
  • Vérification des antécédents en vue d'un travail auprès de personnes vulnérables, un extrait de votre registre auprès de la Société de l'aide à l'enfance d'Ottawa et une autorisation médical (vaccinations à jour et capacité à travailler avec des jeunes à haut risque)
  • Capacité à travailler de manière autonome et avec efficacité, avec un minimum de supervision.
  • Un permis de conduire valide et un extrait de votre dossier de conduite.
