Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Settlement and Community Support Director, the Youth Program Facilitator assists immigrant and refugee families, specifically youth, in their transition to a new culture by connecting them with community services, and by facilitating group and individual services and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administration
- Informs supervisor(s) through regular reporting, as required, and advising them on emergent issues.
- Provides program information through maintaining confidential client records, preparing required reports and program evaluations, and responding to community requests for presentations.
- Ensures service quality and collaborative work relationships by providing guidance to new staff, participating in staff meetings and internal committees, and acting as a resource person in an identified area of expertise.
- Utilizes office technology tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint at an intermediate level to support documentation, reporting, presentations, and collaborative work. Familiarity with virtual meeting and promotional platforms and basic database systems is required.
Programming
- Plans and coordinates client and community events, programs, and activities, including securing venues, arranging third-party experts to facilitate when necessary, and other event planning tasks.
- Develops, implements, and facilitates a variety of group activities for youth, including cooking, sports, or artistic activities.
- Identifies service-related gaps in existing programming for youth and develops programming to fill those gaps.
- Promotes opportunities for immigrants to develop additional skills by recruiting, referring for training or other in-house programs, or referring to community agencies for volunteer placement and training.
External Business Relationship Management
- Recruit high school participants for leadership opportunities through social media, the school systems, and other youth-serving organizations through highly energetic communication.
- Fosters respect for cultural diversity by collaborating with community partners, sensitizing the community service providers to immigrant and cross-cultural issues, participating on external committees, and fostering and maintaining relationships and partnerships with community health and social service providers.
- Fosters equitable treatment of immigrants by keeping up to date on policies and programs affecting immigrant settlement.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- University degree in the social sciences or humanities or education and one year of work experience working with youth, OR
- Graduate of a Youth Worker Certificate/Diploma program and two years of work experience providing counselling services, specifically youth.
- Athletic and camp coaching experience is an asset.
- Specialized training in program delivery.
- Proven ability to recruit and coordinate group activities.
- Training in life skills counselling is an asset.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
- Criminal Occurrence Security Check – Must complete a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check in good standing and within three months prior to first day of employment.
- A valid Canadian driver license and access to a car is a required
