Executive Director
Lead Transformation. Shape Legacy.
Maw-lukutijik Saqmaq (Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaw Chiefs) invites applications for an Executive Director to lead Kwilmu'kw Maw-Klusuaqn (KMK), the principal organisation advancing Mi'kmaw Treaty Rights and governance in Nova Scotia.
This is a rare opportunity for a proven executive to drive strategic change, foster intergovernmental partnerships, and deliver lasting impact for Mi'kmaw communities. As Executive Director, you will be entrusted with steering KMK's mission and ensuring operational excellence across a diverse portfolio.
The Role
As Executive Director, you will provide strategic leadership to KMK, translating the Assembly's vision into a dynamic organizational strategy that delivers measurable results. You will serve as the principal ambassador for KMK, forging and nurturing relationships with Chiefs, Elders, government officials, and industry leaders. Your oversight will span a diverse array of departments, ensuring that each program is aligned with Treaty Rights and Mi'kmaw priorities, and executed with operational excellence.
You will guide the organization, providing timely, insightful advice to the Assembly and ensuring KMK remains at the forefront of Indigenous governance. Financial stewardship will be central to your role, as you oversee multi-year budgets, safeguard resources, and maintain the highest standards of compliance and risk management. Your leadership will extend to the stewardship of research and knowledge, supporting informed decision-making and respectful handling of Mi'kmaw data. Above all, you will inspire and develop a high-performing team, continuing a culture of accountability, innovation, and integrity that reflects the values and aspirations of the Mi'kmaq.
The Candidate
You are a dynamic and strategic leader, distinguished by senior level experience in Indigenous governance or intergovernmental relations. You bring deep expertise in Mi'kmaw Rights and Governance, with a proven ability to advance Indigenous priorities in high-profile, challenging environments. Your reputation is built on exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling you to influence and collaborate at the highest levels.
You thrive in complexity, adept at building consensus and navigating diverse interests to deliver transformative results. Integrity and discretion are hallmarks of your leadership, and your commitment to community-driven progress is unwavering. Fluency in Mi'kmaw is an asset, though all candidates who share a passion for advancing Mi'kmaw governance are encouraged to apply.
Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. (AST) on November 27, 2025.
To express your interest, please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your leadership experience and your vision for advancing Mi'kmaw governance in Nova Scotia.
