The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Human Resources (HR) Advisor to join our team at CUPS commencing January 2026. This role is ideal for an HR professional who leads with empathy and brings experience with workplace health, wellness, and safety. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the HR Advisor collaborates closely with colleagues within the HR team and across the organization.
As the HR Advisor, you will serve as a collaborative and trusted advisor to CUPS staff and leaders. While encompassing a broad range of HR responsibilities, you will have a primary focus on health, wellness, and safety at CUPS. You will be an active member of our health and safety committee, and accountable for ensuring we have programs, procedures and protocols in place to support a safe and healthy workplace culture.
You will be the primary administrator for disability leaves and manage requests for workplace leaves and accommodations. You will also provide comprehensive HR advice and guidance to support leaders throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.

LOCATION: CUPS Main Site (10th Ave & 9th Street SW) and Administrative Office (10th Ave & 8th Street SW) Calgary
REPORTS TO: Director, Human Resources
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-Time
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week
STARTING ANNUAL SALARY RATES: $56,942 to $59,760
Key Responsibilities:
- Take primary responsibility for executing our health and safety initiatives, ensuring policies, procedures and practices are reviewed regularly and remaining up to date based on changes in operational practice.
- Serve as the primary HR contact for all incident reporting, managing follow-up with leaders and employees.
- Co-chair CUPS Health and Safety Committee, including coordination of emergency drills.
- Conduct health and safety orientation for all workers and promote staff wellness initiatives.
- Participate in health and safety audits, inspections and risk assessments.
- Manage disability, WCB and other leave programs, including administration of accommodation requests.
- Provide advice and support to leaders to ensure consistent delivery of HR programs across CUPS.
- Partner with hiring managers to support the recruitment process, including interviews, candidate evaluations, selection and offer creation.
- Support leaders and employees with employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with legislation and respect for employee dignity.
- Identify opportunities and solutions for continuous improvement in HR programs, policies and departmental effectiveness.
- Provide backup support to HR team members to manage workload effectively including HR administrative duties as needed.
- Act as ambassador of CUPS purpose and values both internally and externally.
What You Bring:
- University Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related area of study; or a Diploma in Human Resources combined with relevant professional experience
- Prior experience working within the Occupational Health and Safety discipline
- 3 -5 years' experience of relevant Human Resources experience, with experience in the nonprofit sector an asset
- Experience with disability and leave management an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to develop effective collaborative partnerships and positively influence others
- Strong discernment and reasoning skills, with the ability to understand multiple perspectives, synthesize information, and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
- Experience with recruitment activities, including conducting interviews
- Demonstrated understanding of legislation pertaining to employment, Human Rights, and Health and Safety
- Experience with HRIS, with experience with ADP Workforce Now an asset
- CPHR Designation, or working towards designation an asset
