Vancouver BC VS T, Canada St. George's School Full time $33,000 - $40,000 per year

Position: After School Care Program Coordinator (Part-time, contract until June 2026 with the possibility of moving to permanent)

Department: After School Care, Junior School

Reports To: Principal, Junior School

Starting Date: ASAP

Application Closing Date: October 24, 2025

Salary: $ $40.00 per hour

At St. George's Junior School, we believe in fostering a supportive and enriching environment where every student can thrive. As our After School Care (ASC) program enters an exciting phase of growth, we are seeking a dynamic, organized, and enthusiastic After School Care Program Coordinator to lead and manage its daily operations. This is a unique opportunity to build upon our foundational program and bring your vision to life, creating engaging experiences for our junior school students.

As a positive and experienced leader, you possess a strong background in developing and delivering high-quality recreation and sport programming within community settings. You excel at leading teams, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and creating inclusive programs that cater to a wide range of needs. You are passionate about ensuring safe, clean, and welcoming spaces for children and are adept at navigating operational and administrative responsibilities.

Vision for the Future: You will play a key role in developing exciting future program expansions, potentially including summer programs, music lessons, and enriching field trips. This is your chance to make a real impact and shape the extracurricular offerings at our school. As this is a contract until June 2026, we will evaluate the progression of the program at the end of the year and decide the structure going forward. We expect that the successful candidate would continue in the role, moving to a permanent contract.

Our Values: The successful candidate will embody our core school values: empathy, integrity, humility, respect, responsibility, and resilience.

In order to provide the best possible learning environment for our diverse, multicultural student population, St. George's actively seeks to recruit staff from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in independent and international schools. BIPoC and 2SLGBTQIA+ people and those with disabilities are warmly encouraged to apply and are invited to reach out for more information about our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Program Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the daily operations of the After School Care program at the Junior School, ensuring a positive, safe, and well-structured environment for students.
  • Licensing and Compliance: Work closely with local regulatory agencies to ensure the program consistently meets all licensing requirements and standards. Develop, implement, and maintain operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Administrative Oversight: Handle all administrative tasks efficiently, including creating and managing schedules, overseeing staff, and maintaining clear and consistent communication with parents. Ensure all program documentation and records are accurate and up-to-date for licensing and compliance purposes.
  • Staff Recruitment, Supervision, and Training: Interview, hire, and onboard new program staff. Lead staff training initiatives, ensuring all team members are well-informed of licensing rules, school policies, and best practices in childcare. Provide ongoing supervision, support, and guidance to program team members.
  • Program Development and Implementation: Organize and execute a diverse range of engaging program activities that support children's development, foster their interests, and ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Creating a Positive Environment: Foster a nurturing, inclusive, and fun environment where all children feel valued and supported.
  • Parent Communication: Communicate with parents regularly and professionally to address any concerns.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Assist with budgeting and resource management to ensure the program's financial sustainability and efficient use of resources.
  • Facility Operations: Oversee facility maintenance and operations related to the ASC program, including training staff on safety protocols, scheduling space usage, and ensuring the overall maintenance of program assets and licensed spaces.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Follow established safety processes to identify and address potential hazards, ensuring safe conditions within the recreation facility and during program activities, including adherence to licensing safety requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, students, community stakeholders, and other school departments to enhance program and service delivery and offerings.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports as required, including updates on program operations and any relevant information.

Hours:

  • Potential for shifts to be structured as 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM to accommodate both administrative tasks and program delivery. There may be an additional 5 hours per week for administrative work outside of direct after-school care supervision, offering flexibility in scheduling.
  • Currently, After School Care runs from class pickup at 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM on school days.
  • Significant opportunity to further develop and lead summer programming initiatives. Potential for summer programming with a tentative schedule of 3 days per week, with potential for some work-from-home flexibility when appropriate.
  • Following the August long weekend, the regular school year schedule resumes with 5 days per week.

Qualifications will include:

  • Proven experience in managing after school care programs, childcare, or related fields.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Thorough knowledge of local licensing regulations and requirements for after school programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with children, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Experience with administrative tasks, including record keeping, scheduling, and basic budget awareness.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to providing a safe, fun, and educational environment.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
