The Health, Safety, & Quality Coordinator ensures that Yusen Logistics Canada's Operations comply with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations focusing on protecting employees, minimizing operational risks, ensuring legal compliance, and supporting sustainability objectives. Additionally, this role will support maintenance and improvement of Yusen Logistics Canada's Quality Management System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health & Safety Management:

  • Implement and maintain workplace health and safety programs in line with Canadian legislation (OHSA, WorkSafeBC, WSIB, Transport Canada).
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses.
  • Develop and deliver safety training for warehouse and transport staff.
  • Manage incident/accident investigations and corrective actions.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal regulations (MOL, ESDC, CVOR, TDG, WHMIS, Environment Canada).
  • Support audits and inspections from the Yusen Logistics/NYK Group internal departments and external organizations and authorities.
  • Maintain records of licenses, permits, and certifications (drivers, equipment, warehouse).

Environment & Sustainability:

  • Support environmental initiatives such as waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency, and emissions tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations for handling hazardous and controlled materials and substances, etc. (environmental, health & safety, pharmaceutical, etc).
  • Contribute to corporate ESG and sustainability reporting.

Governance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Plan and coordinate internal and external audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Lead quality management review meetings and report on performance metrics and improvement opportunities.

Quality Management:

  • Support creation and maintenance of Operational SOPs/Job Aids.
  • Conduct Quality Management System Audits (YES, GDP, ISO) & support 3rd party audits.
  • Support Operations in closing Yusen Standard Governance and Compliance gaps.
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives and Kaizen activities
  • Support Operational Risk assessments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Studies, Logistics, Quality Management or related field.
  • CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent Canadian safety certification considered an asset.
  • JHSC Certification considered an asset.
  • Certifications CQE, CQA considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years' experience in warehousing and transport safety/compliance.
  • Knowledge of Canadian health, safety, and environmental regulations: Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)/WorkSafe BC, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR), when own fleet is launched, Etc., as applied in ON, BC, and QC.
  • Strong communication and training skills.
  • Strong organization and record keeping skills.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented; ability to investigate and solve compliance issues.
  • Understanding of CAPA & FMEA methodology considered an asset.
