JOB SUMMARY

The Respectful Workplace & Well-being Branch leads the City's efforts to foster a psychologically healthy, safe, and inclusive organizational culture. The branch develops and implements programs, policies, and supports that promote employee well-being, and addresses complaints of workplace harassment and violence.

You are responsible for planning, managing, and evaluating corporate well-being and respectful workplace programs, ensuring alignment with legislation, collective agreements, and best practices. You will provide leadership in program development, policy oversight, education, and cultural change initiatives.

Programs and services, projects and activities include:

  • Corporate and Department Well-being Plans
  • Peer Support Networks
  • Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention and Investigations
  • Respectful Workplace Initiatives

You will manage staff and resources, advise senior leadership on emerging issues, and build partnerships across the organization to ensure the City remains a safe, supportive, and respectful place to work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

University degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Organizational Psychology, or a master's degree in social work or a related field.

Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in workplace mental health and well-being, respectful workplace/harassment prevention, or organizational health, including at least 5 years in a supervisory/management role overseeing people and financial resources.

Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation is an asset

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES (ASSETS)

Registered Social Worker with OCSWSSW or equivalent certified counsellor in the Province of Ontario

Psychological First Aid Certification

Critical Incident Stress Management Certification

KNOWLEDGE

  • Theories, practices, and trends in employee well-being, respectful workplace, violence and harassment prevention, and organizational health.
  • Understanding of the CSA standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
  • Counseling approaches and mediation techniques.
  • Legislation, policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures related to federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety, Ontario Human Rights Code and the Canada Labour Code,
  • Human resources and labour relations practices and collective agreement provisions as they relate to respectful workplace matters.
  • Program evaluation methods, metrics, and continuous improvement approaches.
  • Understanding of the programs/services and operations of other City areas, and the inter-relationships between them and own work area.

  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise correspondence, reports, policies and recommendations, including evaluations and summaries of research and analysis to guide program development, strategic planning and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communications, facilitation, presentation and collaboration skills to maintain effective working relationships and facilitate discussions, leveraging diversity and differences.
  • Demonstrated ability to enact research and analytical skills to identify needs and develop, plan, maintain, and evaluate programs and projects that support mental health and well-being of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and collaborate with internal and external partners.

    Crisis management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with an anti-racist, anti-oppression and trauma-informed lens.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide strategic interventions that incorporate equity, cultural safety and inclusion practices and principles to a diverse employee population including persons with disabilities, Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse communities.
  • Strengths-based, recovery-oriented, client-focused philosophy in all interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution.
