Our challenge

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer having strong expertise in SQL and programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Halifax, NS is CAD $110k – CAD $115k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement scalable and robust data pipelines to support analytics and data processing needs.
• Develop and maintain database architectures, including data lakes and data warehouses.
• Ensure data quality and consistency through data cleaning, transformation, and validation processes.
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to gather requirements and deliver data solutions that support business objectives.
• Optimise data retrieval and develop dashboards and reports for various user needs.
• Implement data security and privacy policies to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related roles within banking or financial services.
• Strong expertise in SQL and programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java.
• Hands-on experience with big data technologies (Apache Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, etc.).
• Proficiency in cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data services (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.).
• Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehouse design.
• Familiarity with data governance, security standards, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, Basel III, etc.).
• Experience with analytics and BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated environment with attention to detail.

Preferred, but not required:

• Experience in building or maintaining ETL processes.
• Professional certification.
