Haida Child & Family is a Haida-led organization providing culturally appropriate, wrap around services to Haida children and families.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Haida Clan Engagement, the Manager of Clan Engagement is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of programs that engage Clans with the services provided by Haida Child & Family. The role ensures that the organization's programs, policies, and services are deeply rooted in Haida culture and traditions. This position is integral to developing culturally appropriate programs and providing education to staff and external partners about Haida ways of being, values, and beliefs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

o   In consultation with the Director of Clan Engagement, assist in the development and implementation of programs that facilitate Clan engagement within the work at HCF in Southern Haida Gwaii.

o   Facilitate the involvement of southern Clans in community outreach, education and support activities.

o   In consultation with the Director, develop and implement initiatives that promote intergenerational learning and support, both within HCF and with the families and youth with whom we work.

o   Support the Director in the management of the Knowledge Holder in Resident program.

o   Provide ongoing support, guidance, and assistance to those participating in the program.

o   Foster strong relationships with Clans, ensuring their voices are heard.

o   Ensure that Knowledge Holders' cultural teachings are incorporated into HCF's programs and care plans for children and families.

o   Collaborate with Knowledge Holders to develop strategies to engage Clan members in HCF programs and services.

o   Build and maintain relationships with networks of Knowledge Holders in Southern Haida Gwaii.

o   In consultation with the Director, plan and execute events that celebrate and recognize the contributions of Clans and Knowledge Holders while ensuring these events are culturally appropriate.

o   Share cultural practices with staff to enable them to incorporate Haida culture into service delivery, including teachings, ceremonies, and traditions.

o   Supervise staff or contractors delivering Clan engagement programs in Southern Haida Gwaii.

o   Maintain accurate records of program activities and outcomes.

o   Other duties as required to help support the vision and intention of Haida Child & Family to provide culturally appropriate services to Haida families.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

o   Knowledge of Haida culture, history and the implications of colonization for Indigenous children, youth, families and communities

o   Haida ancestry

o   Bachelor's Degree in field related to Indigenous Studies, Human Services, Education or Social Work. Other relevant combinations of skills, education and experience may be considered.

o   A minimum of 2 years' employment experience in a related role.

o   Demonstrated ability to act in alignment with Haida values, including Yahguudang (Respect), 'Laa guu ga kanhllns (Responsibility) and Gina 'waadluxan gud ad kwaagiida (Interconnectedness) with the ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships within the community.

o   Knowledge of First Nation Government (self-government agreements,
Indian Act, Bill C-92), and social and historical issues impacting Haida People in all communities On and Off reserve.

o   Computer literacy for Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Microsoft programs and other computer software.

o   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

o   Strong organizational and project management abilities with a proficiency in developing and delivering training programs.

o   Applicant must successfully undergo a Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

o   Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information with discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

o   Travel between communities will be required.

o   Monday to Friday schedule but flexibility is needed from time to time based on Agency needs, including occasional evenings.

o   Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.

o   Must be able to obtain and maintain a BC Driver's License and possess their own vehicle.

o   Must be willing and able to work remotely.
