Experience and Role Accountabilities
• A minimum ten (10) years of engineering experience including some time working in the maintenance and reliability field, or equivalent.
• Ensure reliable operations and effective maintenance of equipment and systems by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including predictive and condition-based maintenance and root cause analysis of equipment failures on medium complexity systems.
• In addition to the core work, assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
• Resolve highly technical and unusual reliability and maintenance problems by analyzing data, collaborating with others, accessing documentation, to determine priorities, establish a course of action and follow through on tasks to resolve the issue.
• Participate in BC Hydro's engineering practice by conducting independent analysis, contributing to the development of technical standards, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, and making decisions related to equipment or system reliability and maintenance as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability at BC Hydro.
• Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with internal and external stakeholders and briefing senior management on complex project issues in a clear and concise manner to support completion of projects safely, with quality, within budget and on time.

• Prior to commencement on assignment, the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner, or the use of their firm's, Permit to Practice with EGBC.
• EGBC Registrants provided to BC Hydro through this assignment shall work under BC Hydro's Professional Practice Management Plan, Quality Management Pillar. The Registrant shall apply their own or their firm's Permit to Practice Number to work that is Sealed by the Registrant. Retention and preservation of all project documentation produced by the Registrant during their contract with BC Hydro will be retained by BC Hydro to satisfy EGBC Bylaws. Education and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, civil, or equivalent
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC
• BC Hydro uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius
• Expert working knowledge and extensive experience in the following areas:
O Reliability concepts, principles and methods
O Reliability tools and their application to understand system performance (reliability and availability) and major contributors to system uptime
O Tools including Failure Modes/Effect Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Center Maintenance (RCM), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) O Operation, maintenance, and failures of equipment and systems in the power utility industry, oil and gas industry, or heavy industrial environment
O Reading and understanding drawings and manuals to articulate how a system works and how the system can fail and what needs to be done to prevent failures either from a design or an effective maintenance standpoint
O Various types of predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies and their application
O Taking equipment apart and reassembling it
• Demonstrated ability to use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as a method of problem solving to identify root causes of faults or problems
• Intermediate knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
• Ability to multi-task when given multiple competing assignments
• Good decision making and conflict resolution skills
• Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
This position will support the development of the asset maintenance, operations and management strategies for the implementation of new assets at several facilities located in remote communities primarily in Northern and North Coastal British Columbia. The following pertains to assets owned by NIA Planning which for the time being include the following major equipment:
• Batteries/Containers
• Battery Energy Management System
• Power Conversion System (i.e. Inverters)
• MGC/DER Controllers
• 600-25kV Transformers
Asset Management
• Development of:
• asset management plans relating to short and long term maintenance and replacement of equipment
• spares strategy requiring collaboration with OEMs, SFO & Maintenance Engineering for individual station and program level
• category IDs for key equipment
• procurement strategy for replacement of specialized equipment (outside of warranty period)
• Work with SAP teams for creation of new asset categories and hierarchies
Maintenance Engineering
• Development of :
• new maintenance standards, procedures & instructions referencing OEM literature
• Field Inspection and Test Plans
Safety & Work Methods
• Support the development of:
• Any safe work procedures required to conduct maintenance and operational tasks
• Support in assuring equipment meets SPR/WPP requirements applicable for NIA stations
