Company Overview
At Ensemble, we build innovative custom software solutions for some of the largest brands in the media and entertainment, financial services, insurance, government, life sciences, and manufacturing industries. We're proud of what we do, and we know that our incredible team is the secret to our success.
Ensemble is currently looking to grow our Digital Content team with individuals who are passionate about bridging the gap between development and documentation; who understand how important documentation and video content is to the developer and end-user experience.
The Technical Documentation Writer role is perfect for you if you are:
- Great at explaining things. Whether it's directions to the grocery store or the meaning of life, you can organize your thoughts in a concise, friendly way that communicates the right information to the right audience.
- Familiar with code. You know how to read code and are familiar with JSON, HTML, Java, and JavaScript. Preferably you've completed some coding courses or a bootcamp.
- Experienced with RESTful APIs. You GET what we're PUTting down... or do we need to DELETE this POST? Bonus points if you are familiar with Postman and using Postman collections.
- Knowledgeable of GitHub or other version control software and best practices for document versioning, pull requests, and reviewing.
- Comfortable using text editors like VS Code and authoring documentation in Markdown. Bonus points if you have worked with Swagger documents before.
- Interested in (and experienced with) enterprise marketing technologies like Adobe Experience Cloud. This includes things like analytics, campaign automation, and customer journeys.
- Agile. Familiar with Agile development and using tools such as JIRA to track and plan your work.
- Able to work independently, but also collaborate with other writers, developers, product managers, project managers, and more.
- Positive in the face of adversity. Sometimes deadlines are tight, sometimes gathering information can be a struggle, can you handle it with a smile on your face?
- Bonus points if you have experience working with video creation and editing software, such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition.
- Bonus points if you have experience in learning experience design or instructional design. Are you able to develop learning materials on technical topics and create an engaging and meaningful experience to guide learners effectively?
Responsibilities
The specific activities change a little with each project, but in general, here are the core responsibilities and day-to-day activities of a member of the Digital Content team:
- Writing and editing technical documentation for APIs, software, features, services, platforms, and user interfaces (UI).
- Outlining and creating scripts to produce tutorial videos and other digital content.
- Working closely with engineering, product, and support teams to ensure documents are useful to the readers and targeted to the appropriate audiences. The typical audience being developers working with the software, APIs, etc.
- Performing API calls in order to document sample code snippets and illustrate workflows for tutorials, developer guides, and UI documentation.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of documentation standards by helping to draft and update style guides and processes for the digital content team.
Along with a keen desire to succeed, we are searching for individuals who enjoy working in a collaborative team environment. If you have excellent communication and time management skills, paired with a winning attitude and an unparalleled work ethic, then you would be a good fit for Ensemble — and we want to hear from you.
