Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The role will provide intentional, directed, spiritual care for residents. The position will organize and facilitate spiritual formation and spirituality-based classes and groups, including Christin programing. The Spiritual Care Advisor II will provide Christian leadership in planning, directing, coordinating assist with residents and staff with a range of duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicates regularly with the Executive Director to review processes and programs to meet the spiritual needs of residents, families, and staff.
  • Conducts pastoral visits with residents, family members, staff and volunteers as needed or requested.
  • Conducts spiritual assessments on new residents and every 2 years, on existing residents.
  • Provides spiritual counseling to residents, family members and staff and volunteers when requested.
  • Liaises closely with the Resident Services Manager and nursing staff in Heights regarding resident wellbeing.
  • Facilitates orientation events for new residents.
  • Conducts funerals, graveside services, memorial services, other ceremonies and bereavement follow-up for residents, families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Conducts worship services and devotions, spiritual counseling sessions and bible studies.
  • Coordinates inter-denominational clergy/group visits to meet the individual personal needs of the residents.
  • Visits hospitalized residents as needed.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of special programs and services. E.g., Christmas, Easter, Remembrance Day.
  • Maintains pertinent records and documentation on a variety of platforms.
  • May assist with annual fundraising efforts for the units.
  • Oversees the current child sponsorship commitments.
  • Gives lunch/early evening announcements and coordinates the grace roster in the Southview dining room.
  • Keeps an up-to-date list of residents' birthdays/anniversaries and acknowledges special days in the lives of residents and staff, usually by presenting a card for the occasion.
  • Works closely with the Activities Coordinator so that in the absence of one, within practical bounds, the other provides seamless support.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
The incumbent's work environment is typically in an office, in residents' suites, in the chapel, and at specified locations in the community.

Education, Experience, & Qualifications

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child/Venerable Adult Check (if appropriate).

Education, Qualifications And Certifications

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years – Bible College Certificate or equivalent.
  • BBA, BComm, BBS or BSW or a degree in Theology will be considered as a strong asset.
  • Current Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent.
  • Current BC driver's license.
  • Clear criminal record check.
  • NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Experience And Knowledge

  • Three years of related experience with at least one year of experience in

  • a wide range of social service programs and managing people/resources,

  • a pastoral position dealing with death and dying, and working with the senior population.

  • Computer literate in MS Office.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities - integrity, good judgment, discretion, confidentiality and clear critical thinking and decision-making ability.
  • People oriented person.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Experience in similar work with aging persons is preferred.
  • Willingness to provide spiritual care for palliative individuals is required.
  • Must be in good health, physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment.

Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $54,814.39 to $68,517.99 with a maximum of $82,221.59.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
