The Lord Beaverbrook Rink was built in 1960 by Lord Beaverbrook and was subsequently donated to the City of Saint John after its completion. The rink operates year-round for ice rentals and floor rentals from a wide variety of groups. Run by a Board of Directors, the LBR has a mandate to provide sporting opportunities for the youth of Saint John.
Job description
Employees of this category perform labour-intensive, semi-skilled maintenance, repair and custodial duties of repetitive, but varied nature under the supervision of the General Manager. Rink Attendants will work towards the attainment of high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security at the facility. Applicants MUST hold a valid driver's license to operate the ice resurfacing machine safely.
Rink Attendants prepare and maintain the ice surface for skating, hockey, and special bookings. They will patch and flood the ice, using the ice resurfacing machine and related equipment. Attendants will take gauge readings, check valves, monitor ice thickness, etc. as required. Custodial and caretaking duties include sweeping and cleaning all areas of the rink (bleachers, walkways, corridors, lobby, offices, dressing rooms, etc.). Collecting and removing garbage, scrubbing floors, minor maintenance and repair work. Rink Attendants are also responsible for enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining security at the facility. The successful applicant will take part in on the job training.
Other Duties:
Check all garbage bins and empty/replace bags; Check all dressing rooms prior to use; Check washrooms for cleanliness and replace paper towel, toilet paper and soap
Check stands, players benches, penalty box, entrances/exits etc. for garbage and spills
Sweep/mop concourse area, lobby, canteen, lounge, hallways, stairwells, etc.
Clear entrances and exits of snow and/or ice as well as other debris
Clean windows and board glass as needed
Urinals, toilets, showers and countertops/sinks cleaned in all washrooms
Ice maintenance (typically once a week)
Ice plant record sheet must be completed at the appropriate times EVERY day
Flood/scrape ice as needed and check for problems with ice surface; Replace blade
All other duties as requested/needed
