Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Fire Protection Designer based in Vancouver, BC. The Fire Protection Designer will be responsible for designing and drafting fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. Day-to-day tasks include creating system layouts, performing hydraulic calculations, collaborating with engineers and contractors, and preparing technical documentation. The role also involves conducting site visits and inspections to support project installations and ensure quality control.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in design and drafting of fire protection systems, including creation of system layouts and hydraulic calculations.
  • Knowledge of applicable fire protection codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA standards, BCBC).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Experience with hydraulic calculation software such as Elite, Pipenet or Hydracalc.
  • Strong project management skills, including coordination with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in designing compliant and efficient systems.
  • Ability to conduct site visits and inspections to ensure proper installation and adherence to design specifications.
  • Relevant certifications or education in fire protection, engineering, or a related field (e.g., NICET certification) is an asset.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented environment.
