General Accountant - Construction Industry - Vaughan, ON (Office Based Role)

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Compliance

  • Generate regular AR and collections reports for management review.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and contractual obligations.
  • Assist with audits and provide documentation as required.

Progress Billing

  • Assist with progress billings based on project milestones, contract terms, and item and percentage of completion.
  • Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to ensure billing accuracy and alignment with project schedules.
  • Maintain detailed billing schedules and documentation for each project.
  • Familiar with processes for application for payment.

Accounts Receivable

  • Monitor and manage the AR aging report to ensure timely collections.
  • Post customer payments and reconcile accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies and short payments.

Collections

  • Initiate and follow up on collection efforts via phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Escalate delinquent accounts as needed and recommend actions such as payment plans or legal follow-up.
  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with clients to preserve relationships.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in AR and collections, preferably in the construction or contracting industry
  • Proficiency in accounting software Jonas would be a benefit and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
