About the Role

As a
Senior Safety Coordinator
, you will play a leadership role in advancing Mott Electric's Health & Safety culture across all divisions and project sites. Reporting to the Chief Safety Officer, you'll lead training initiatives, manage site safety programs, and support compliance with regulatory and company standards.

This role is ideal for an experienced health and safety professional who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and is passionate about mentoring others, improving systems, and driving a proactive approach to safety.

Responsibilities

Training & Education

  • Develop and deliver in-house safety training programs tailored to Mott's operations.
  • Educate employees on safety policies, Standard Job Procedures (SJPs), and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), including updates and refreshers.

Site Safety Management

  • Create and implement site-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, and safety boards during project start-up.
  • Support project managers and chargehands with prime or general contractor site setup requirements.
  • Conduct regular site visits and audits to ensure compliance with Mott's H&S program and WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Complete safety observation reports and review findings with site supervisors and project managers.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Follow up on outstanding corrective actions and ensure safety documentation is completed accurately and on time using SiteDocs Reports and Analytics.
  • Maintain organized safety records, reports, and communication logs.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of company safety policies, procedures, and programs.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and "Good Catch" reports to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare detailed investigation reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Support injured workers through safe return-to-work programs and act as the main point of contact for all involved parties.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JOHSC) meetings, division meetings, and bi-weekly safety meetings.
  • Provide updates, trend analyses, and improvement recommendations to the H&S Department and senior leadership.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Chief Safety Officer regarding safety performance, initiatives, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide on-site support and guidance to field teams and supervisors as needed.

Qualifications

  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • 5+ years of experience in a construction safety role (electrical experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, OHS legislation, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in site audits, investigations, and training delivery.
  • Proficiency in SiteDocs, Microsoft Office, and safety reporting systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to safety management.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various sites.

Pay Range and Compensation Package

$75,000 – $90,000 per year
