Position purpose:

  • Develop and conduct lab and pilot plant trials in alignment with customer requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Senior Project Management) to commission machinery on schedule and within budget.
  • Maintain thorough documentation in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct microwave related experimental trials on products according to customer objectives; determine pass/fail criteria of the process.
  • Generate ideas for new products or product improvements based on research findings and consumer insights.
  • Maintain and update a library of test products.
  • Coordinate with third-party laboratories and government agencies to ensure regulatory and quality compliance.
  • Conduct literature searches and maintain up to date information on product safety, processing, packaging and regulatory compliance related with assigned projects.
  • Setup, calibrate, evaluate and operate basic and specialized pilot plant and laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in developing SOPs and testing protocols for product evaluation; identify areas of improvement.
  • Keep accurate lab notes and prepare trial reports for customers and internal use.
  • Prepare and perform demo runs to potential customers at the office or on the client's site.
  • Establish, maintain and enhance existing GMP's and Food Safety Policies; wear PPE in designated areas.
  • Works collaboratively with the Engineering team (and Automation Specialist), Manufacturing team, Sales and Marketing team and the Senior Project Manager to commission the machinery to meet customers' requirements; identify and report broken, damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Document commissioning activities, including test results, deviations and corrective actions.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Manager with providing technical customer support.
  • Maintain a clean and organized pilot plant and laboratory by following the SSOP's (e.g. discarding waste and cleaning and sanitizing countertops, floors, sink, equipment etc.).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science -related field (e.g. Food Science, Chemistry, materials Science) or equivalent.

Professional Certification:

  • Class 5 clean driver's license with access to a car.

Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in production and manufacturing industries is required.
  • 1+ years R&D laboratory experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP and food regulations.
  • Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods and navigate safely in an industrial environment (e.g., ladders, stairs, stationary and moving industrial equipment).
  • Must be able to lift 11.3 kg/25 lb.
  • Ability to work in closed spaces and/or elevated heights with the proper safety equipment.
