Position Overview

AltaStream is seeking a Power Engineer with a strong foundation in electrical or mechanical engineering, and ideally exposure to both, to support the design and integration of advanced industrial power systems. The successful candidate will take a hands-on role in equipment selection, system layout, and emission control design for projects ranging from industrial backup power to mission-critical data center generation.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment developing next-generation power solutions that combine engineering reliability with environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer prime and standby power systems (0.5–50 MW range) for industrial and data center applications.
• Select and integrate mechanical and electrical equipment, including gensets, radiators, SCR systems, exhaust silencers, switchgear, and transformers.
• Develop and review technical drawings and documentation, such as P&IDs, single-line diagrams, mechanical layouts, and load calculations.
• Design and specify emission control systems (SCR, DPF, catalytic converters) in compliance with environmental standards.
• Support data center power architectures, redundancy planning (N+1/N+2), and power quality optimization.
• Conduct system-level analyses for efficiency, heat rejection, and electrical distribution.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and vendor teams to ensure seamless mechanical-electrical integration.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing, FAT, and commissioning phases.
• Contribute to R&D and product development for AltaStream's modular and containerized power platforms.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering (P.Eng. or EIT designation preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in designing or integrating industrial power systems or generation packages.
• Knowledge of both electrical systems (LV/MV distribution, synchronization, controls) and mechanical systems (cooling, exhaust, vibration isolation).
• Experience with generator system design, load analysis, and emission control technologies (SCR, catalysts, filters).
• Familiarity with control and automation systems (Deep Sea, ComAp, or Woodward).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or relevant design tools.
• Understanding of applicable codes and standards (CSA, NFPA, NEC, ISO).
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in data center power infrastructure, oil & gas, or industrial EPC environments.
• Background in containerized or modular power system design.
• Exposure to hydrogen, CNG/LNG, or alternative fuel systems is an asset.
