Main Purpose of Job:

As a Junior Landscape Designer, you will support a multidisciplinary team in the design, documentation, and delivery of diverse landscape architecture projects. You will assist in all project phases—from conceptual design to construction administration—while collaborating closely with internal team members, clients, consultants, and external agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site visits to perform measurements, photo documentation, and site analysis related to grading, vegetation, drainage, and existing conditions.
  • Support conceptual and schematic design development through illustrations, diagrams, and 3D visualizations (e.g., DynaScape, AutoCAD).

  • Apply knowledge of hardy plant species and local growing conditions to develop planting plans; assist in selecting plant materials, sourcing nurseries, and preparing plant orders.

  • Assist in producing detailed design and technical documentation including grading plans, planting plans, construction details, and IFC/tender drawing packages.

  • Participate in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, quantity take-offs, and material research.
  • Help coordinate with clients, municipalities, contractors, and subconsultants; attend site meetings and contribute to site visit reports.
  • Assist with construction administration tasks including RFIs, submittals, and field review.
  • Maintain project organization, drawing standards, and support BIM/CAD workflows.
  • Help prepare presentation materials for client and public engagement sessions.
  • Provide administrative support, coordinating between the design and construction teams as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between the designer and the operation manager.

Requirements:

  • Working towards a degree or diploma in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, or a related field (BLA, MLA, or Landscape Architectural Technology Diploma).
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in a landscape architecture or related design office.
  • Advanced proficiency in DynaScape, AutoCAD, and/or similar software.
  • Strong technical drawing and detailing abilities with knowledge of Ontario plant material and construction practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • A growth mindset and eagerness to learn in a collaborative environment.
  • A valid Class G driver's license is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Regular in-person collaboration is expected; frequent travel to project sites and public meetings may be required.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organization and the overall business objectives of the organization.
