Requisition ID:

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Purpose

Provides strategic leadership, driving end-to-end integrity, transparency, and insight in financial reporting across Global Banking and Markets, Global Wealth Management and Group Treasury activities, including over hedge accounting, and intercompany processes. Also, responsible for overseeing the adherence to strong control standards, ensuring rigorous compliance with regulatory and accounting standards, including all applicable regulatory reporting obligations, and delivering high-value insight to senior finance and business leaders.

This role demands technical excellence, business fluency, and the ability to modernize the controllership activities through process optimization automation, data-driven insights, and continuous improvement in a complex, global finance landscape.

Key Accountabilities

  • Financial Reporting, Analytics & Controls: Lead the controllership activities for Global Banking and Markets, Global Wealth Management, and Group Treasury, ensuring alignment with IFRS, GAAP, and regulatory requirements while providing insightful analysis to support business decisions. Ensure timely, accurate, and SOX-compliant reporting of all financial activities — from journal entries and reconciliations to disclosures and control testing — while embedding advanced analytics to deliver actionable insights.
  • Hedge Accounting & Treasury Support: Partner with Global Treasury and Risk to deliver compliant, high-quality hedge accounting and reporting. In collaboration with the Accounting Policies and Procedures team, provide authoritative guidance on complex derivative structures, evolving strategies, and regulatory impacts.
  • Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP): Ensure FTP models are transparent, aligned with regulatory requirements, and accurately reflected in segment profitability. Collaborate across Finance and Risk to drive understanding and strategic use.
  • ESG Reporting & Governance: Lead the development and implementation of the Bank's ESG disclosure reporting and controls strategy, consolidating activities across business units, and continue to evolve the function through enhanced data management, process improvements, control frameworks, and enabling technologies.
  • Subsidiary & Intercompany Accounting: Own end-to-end subsidiary and intercompany accounting — including transaction recording, reconciliations, eliminations, and oversight of reporting integrity across Executive Office, Global Banking & Markets, Global Wealth Management, and other subsidiaries — ensuring accuracy, audit readiness, and control integrity.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Oversee preparation, review, and submission of all regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with prudential, statutory, and other applicable regulatory frameworks. Collaborate with Compliance teams to assess impacts of emerging rules and implement required changes.
  • Advisory & Influence: Serve as a trusted advisor to business line CFOs, and partners in FP&A, Global Risk Management, and Group Treasury. Translate complex financial data into forward-looking insights that shape strategic decisions.
  • Transformation & Automation: Champion process re-engineering, technology enablement, and data governance improvements that reduce cycle times, improve data quality, and strengthen controls.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • CPA or equivalent accounting designation required.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial control, hedge accounting, or subsidiary reporting, preferably within banking or capital markets; recognized market expertise with ability to influence change.
  • Proven track record of delivering strategic improvements across reporting, control, regulatory compliance, and analytics functions.
  • Deep understanding of IFRS, regulatory reporting requirements, and internal control frameworks (SOX, Basel).
  • Strong command of ERP and financial platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel, with exposure to data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Strategic Financial Steward – You bring a forward-looking mindset to financial control — protecting the Bank while enabling business growth.
  • Visionary Execution – You blend big picture strategy with execution discipline to drive measurable enterprise outcomes.
  • Strategy Alignment – Sets organization priorities/framework and strategy (medium term; 1-3 years) by translating the all-bank vision for Global Finance.
