The Centre for Academic Technology (CAT) provides campus wide leadership, direction, training, services and support for a broad range of technologies used in teaching, learning, research, and administration. Media Services is a major unit within the Centre for Academic Technology organized into 2 service delivery areas; Multi Media Services and Video Production Services.

The Media Technologies Events Specialist is a full-time continuing role, and a front-line technology services and support position, providing services and support for a range of audio and visual technologies campus wide and in the virtual workspace.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and managing the day-to-day activities of the unit, managing priorities and resource scheduling, and assigning work tasks.
  • Manage and schedule part-time staff to support service delivery for after hours and weekend events and conferences.
  • Provides front line classroom user support for faculty and staff. This includes:
  • On the spot troubleshooting and verification of the nature of the technical problem, rectifying the problem or reassigning to the appropriate support technician.
  • Providing user training on the proper operation of smart classroom and interactive technologies.
  • Performing system operational checks and preventative maintenance.
  • Work with the Events/Conference Services to determine event operational plans, set up, safety requirements and capacity.
  • Meet with internal and external clients to determine event requirements, select the technology best suited to client needs. Provide labour and cost estimates.
  • Work with the President's Office and Legal Department to coordinate confidential and highly sensitive materials shared at Senate and Board of Regents meetings.
  • Plan targeted troubleshooting/training sessions for individuals experiencing challenges.
  • Manage the University of Winnipeg's Zoom Webinar 1000 license to plan, schedule and facilitate all online and hybrid (livestreamed) events, providing technical assistance when required.
  • Supervise junior staff by providing training, instruction and support for events.
  • Facilitate follow up meetings with clients and University staff to diagnose potential areas of improvement and provide constructive feedback.
  • Manage schedule regarding overtime and work outside of office hours.
  • Set up, program, and operate audio sound reinforcement systems that include digital audio mixers, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and digital signal processors (DSPs) for live events.
  • Set up and operate video systems that include digital projection systems, digital video cameras, video signal sources such as digital playback systems and sources, computer, laptops for live events.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot inventory of audio and visual equipment to ensure equipment is ready and available for use when needed.
  • Set up and coordinate test connections and/or system orientations with external participants and troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
  • Set up and monitor mobile camera, microphone and computer equipment to facilitate the video portion of conferences.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues that arise during live conferences.
  • Meet with clients prior to production schedule to plan and map out project components.
  • Provide video and audio production services for various academic and administrative departments.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Maintain technical and operational currency.
  • Maintain documentation and records as required.

Qualifications:

  • Five years' experience in audio-visual production and support.
  • Extensive and varied live event production experience i.e., theatrical, musical, or corporate events.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up and operating sound and video systems for live events and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in setting up and operating video conferencing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the staff and operation of events and conferences maintaining safety and professional standards.
  • Must be able to communicate audio visual concepts convincingly, understandably, and with a high degree of diplomacy.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively with all levels of University faculty and staff.
  • Must have strong negotiation skills applied in dealings with internal staff and clients, and external consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Solid grounding in IP networking theory, standards, and configuration sufficient to work effectively with Network Analysts and commercial telecom service providers in troubleshooting activities.
  • Good technical knowledge to be able to troubleshoot networked systems and perform repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of integrated network technology supporting data/voice/video systems
  • Advanced technical skill and artistic ability to use commercial quality audio and video production and editing software such as Apple Final Cut or Adobe CS.
  • Advanced working knowledge of, and ability to set up, program, test, and operate digital audio, video, and DSP systems efficiently and optimally.
  • Advanced working knowledge of, and ability to set up, test, and operate analogue audio and video systems efficiently and optimally.
  • Good working relationship with service and equipment suppliers
  • Proven ability to remain calm, focused, and productive under pressure, such as during live events.
  • Ability to co-ordinate tasks and resources needed to identify, define, and create video production-based projects,
  • Ability to plan, organize, establish and manage priorities, schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Capable of lifting and moving equipment in excess of 15kg.

The salary range for this position will be from $47,793.20 to $66,175.20 annually.
