Junior Product Owner Role Description

The Junior Product Owner supports team by contributing to the product development process, maximizing the product's value through effective backlog management and collaboration. This role is critical in ensuring smooth communication and alignment between stakeholders, team members, and the Product Owner. 

Responsibilities:

Scrum Participation

  • Attend daily scrum meetings, either alongside the Product Owner or independently, to take notes and listen for actionable items.
  • Communicating requested changes to backlog items (in terms of content and priority) or requested answers relating to current or future project work.

Backlog Management

  • Assist with making changes to backlog items in tools like OpenProject as directed by the Product Owner.
  • Support backlog prioritization to ensure alignment with the product vision and goals.
  • Develop and communicate the Product Goal.
  • Create, clearly communicate, and order Product Backlog items.
  • Ensure the Product Backlog is transparent, visible, and understood by all.

User Stories and Documentation

  • Write user stories, if requested, based on guidance from the Product Owner.
  • Clarify and document acceptance criteria for backlog items.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Meet with the Product Owner, business analyst, or other team members as needed to discuss requirements or priorities.
  • Gather and analyze end-user feedback to guide product direction.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Approving or rejecting completed features and pages based on acceptance criteria.
  • Act as the voice of the user within the team.
  • Act as a liaison to relay feedback, requested changes, and updates among stakeholders and the team.
