GENERAL SUMMARY

This position will provide full-time environmental health and safety (EHS) leadership and support and will ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, customer, and company requirements, including OSHA, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and other relevant standards. This position is responsible for leading safety initiatives, coordinating regulatory programs and permitting applications, drives EMS/ISO compliance, and develops, supports, and coordinates training and development activities to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE JOB

Environmental Management & Compliance (ISO 14001)

  • Represents Exo-s as Environmental Management System (ISO Representative
  • Coordinate, schedule and lead internal EMS audits to ensure the EMS has been properly implemented and maintained.
  • Investigate environmental nonconformities and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed and effective.
  • Monitor and report EMS performance to top management and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate regulatory programs, including permitting, compliance reporting, waste management, and stormwater permit documentation.
  • Maintain emergency response plans, spill response procedures, and environmental preparedness requirements.

Safety Leadership & Program Management (OSHA/IATF 16949)

  • Promote safe working techniques and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines and procedures through daily leadership and coaching.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a consistent application of EHS practices.
  • Manage safety compliance programs including contractor/visitor safety, SDS/chemical inventory, LOTO, machine guarding, powered industrial truck program, and other required programs.
  • Responsible for identifying potential safety, environmental, and operational risks; evaluating the likelihood and impact of such exposures; developing and implementing corrective or preventive measures; and monitoring and auditing these measures to ensure ongoing effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and update as needed Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)'s for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day-to-day training.
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver EHS training programs including employee orientations, emergency response, hazard communication, PPE, Ergonomics, and other required topics.
  • Regularly conduct training needs analysis.
  • Maintain filing systems/records regarding worker training and safety and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected. Coordinate with management team on facility deficiencies and monthly safety inspections.
  • Advise, assist and audit line management to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working.
  • Lead the safety committee, and emergency response team, drive proactive initiatives, and promote a culture of shared safety ownership.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents and incidents, conduct thorough field audits, document findings, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked for effectiveness.

Worker's Compensation & Occupational Health

  • Communicates on a regular basis with Workers Compensation Insurance Company, Workers Compensation Broker and all occupational health providers
  • Support claims management, return-to-work processes, and documentation requirements.
  • Analyze trends and recommend strategies for injury reduction and prevention.

Project Management

  • Project management: ability to plan, create, track, and to collaborate multiple projects efficiently.

EDUCATION / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree
  • 4-6 years of Safety and/or Environmental experience
  • Familiarity of the manufacturing environment
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Project management ability
  • Leadership, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with manufacturing labor, human resources, maintenance, supervision and management under direction to meet objectives
  • Auditing and result analyzing experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS word, excel, power point, etc)
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members, management, and customers
  • Team player / good attitude
  • Ability to work independantly as well as part of a team
  • Flexible to change and open to constructive feedback.
