Are you a Black Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about reproductive justice, health equity, and gender-affirming care? Do you want to work in a dynamic, youth-centered environment where your identity, lived experience, and clinical expertise can make a real impact?

Planned Parenthood Toronto (PPT) is looking for a Nurse Practitioner (RN – Extended Class) to join our Black Reproductive Health Initiative (BRHI). This initiative is dedicated to improving access to inclusive, community-driven sexual and reproductive health care for Black youth, young people and other birthing folks across Toronto.

As a core member of our BRHI clinical team, you'll help break down systemic barriers by providing holistic, trauma-informed care that centers Black youth, particularly those navigating intersecting oppressions related to race, gender identity, and socioeconomic status. The BRHI clinical team is rooted in reproductive justice principles, working to decrease the systemic barriers and reproductive trauma Black youth experience.

ABOUT PPT's BLACK REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH INITIATIVE

The Black Reproductive Health Initiative (BRHI) is more than a clinical program—it's a community-driven movement toward justice and healing. BRHI aims to:

  • Expand early access to culturally responsive sexual and reproductive health services through youth-focused clinics in North York and Scarborough
  • Improve health literacy and empower Black youth (including Black non-binary, and trans youth) with tools to navigate conditions like PCOS, fibroids, HIV/STBBIs, and mental health challenges
  • Build supportive networks through the leadership of our Black Youth Advisory Committee and partnerships with agencies like Black Creek CHC, TAIBU, and North York Women's Shelter
  • Connect youth to holistic care, offering seamless attachment or referral to primary and specialized services

ABOUT US

Planned Parenthood Toronto (PPT) is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary health care services to youth 13 to 29 years as well as health promotion programming, education, training and research to improve the health and well-being of Toronto's diverse communities. ROLE OVERVIEW

In this role, the Nurse Practitioner (RN – Extended Class) will provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and gender-affirming primary care to youth aged 13–29, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and gender-affirming clinical services. The ideal candidate brings a strong equity lens and clinical expertise rooted in reproductive justice, understands the systemic barriers faced by Black youth and communities, and is committed to delivering inclusive, anti-oppressive care. PPT is also committed to support NP learning – this position is an excellent opportunity to build your skills related to IUD and Implant insertions/removals, Medical Abortion, and Gender Affirming Care.

This position is part of Planned Parenthood Toronto's Black Reproductive Health Initiative (BRHI) – a program focused on improving access, engagement, and health outcomes for Black youth through community partnerships, integrated services, and evidence-based approaches. Services are delivered at PPT's main site and in outreach settings in North York and Scarborough.

Reporting to the Director of Community Health Services, in this role you will:

  • Deliver comprehensive, client-centered care in-person, virtually, and by phone, including contraception, IUD/implant procedures, abortion care, prenatal care, HIV/STBBI testing and treatment, and menstrual health support.
  • Provide gender-affirming care including hormone therapy initiation and puberty suppression for trans and non-binary youth (training provided as needed).
  • Address mental health concerns through short-term interventions and support navigation to internal or external services as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary primary health care team and consult with external providers as needed to coordinate care beyond your scope of practice.
  • With support from the Health Equity Health Promoter and Black Health Team, deliver group programming focused on sexual and reproductive health issues that disproportionately impact Black youth and communities.
  • Document all client interactions clearly, accurately, and confidentially in the electronic medical record (EMR), adhering to clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and interdisciplinary planning to support coordinated and holistic client care.
  • Collaborate with community partners such as Black Creek Community Health Centre, North York Women's Shelter, and TAIBU to support effective outreach, care continuity, and culturally safe service delivery.
  • Actively contribute to quality improvement processes, including chart audits, protocol development, policy review, and accreditation efforts.
  • Participate in research and evaluation activities aligned with BRHI's goals to improve access and outcomes for Black youth and guide evidence-informed practices.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing and allied health students, contributing to a learning-focused, inclusive organizational culture.
  • Provide clinical input to the development and refinement of internal practice tools, protocols, and health information materials that are inclusive, accurate, and accessible.
  • Participate in internal equity initiatives and contribute to the development of health programs that reflect and respond to the needs of underserved youth, including those who are Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomers, or system involved.
  • Stay current on best practices and regulatory standards through ongoing professional development, with a focus on reproductive justice, anti-oppressive care, and youth health equity.

QUALIFICATIONS

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (RN(EC)) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Has 3+ years of Nurse Practitioner experience in primary care, community health, or sexual health
  • Identifies as Black, including those with intersecting Indigenous and/or other racialized identities, in alignment with the focus and goals of the Black Reproductive Health Initiative (BRHI).
  • Is experienced in providing anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive care.
  • Thorough understanding of the impacts of systemic oppression, including anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, on youth mental health and well-being.
  • Brings strong clinical skills in contraception, abortion, STBBI treatment, mental health, and/or gender-affirming care
  • Clear commitment to sexual and reproductive rights, health equity, and youth positive, 2SLGBTQ positive, sex positive, and sex work positive practice
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, community-based team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and comfort working in a digital environment.
  • Can work flexibly (two evenings/week) and travel to satellite and outreach sites in North York and Scarborough.
