Term Adjunct COMM 398 – Business, Government and the Global Economy

A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in Kingston, in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach Business, Government and the Global Economy – Comm 398 in the fall term. Teaching one (1) section of Comm 398 will generally include teaching twenty-four "one-and-a-half hour" sessions from September to December 2025. The successful applicant(s) will be required to teach 100% of one or more sections of COMM 398 with a maximum enrollment of 55 students.
The course is described as follows:In an era of globalization and crises, international business is argued to be characterized by "total competition." Managers are certainly expected and are required to be fluent "market strategies" such as competing on cost, differentiation, etc. However, managers must also be fluent in understanding, anticipating and shaping the workings of the "visible hands" of governments and international institutions. This is particularly important because the global economic system has undergone tremendous stress over the past three years. This course explores how the global economy works via the in-depth examination of the various "systems" that govern it - the systems of energy, finance, trade, and government-business relations.
The course develops frameworks, tools, and concepts from various disciplines - business strategy, economics, political science, philosophy - that will help new managers meet the non-market challenges they will inevitably face. It is heavily case and discussion based and looks at the practical application of the concepts discussed.

Compensation
The salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a course in our Commerce program is $13,856 (excluding vacation pay). This salary is pro-rated based on course credit.
Qualifications include a Master's degree or PhD; several years of related experience; and experience teaching university courses.
