Nature of Position:
The Executive Director will provide visionary leadership and management to ensure that
the organization fulfils its mission and meets the needs of the communities we serve. The
ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and a strong
commitment to social justice and equity.
Duties:
The Executive Director:
- Will keep the President and Members of the Board of Directors informed on all
important matters and activities undertaken pertinent to the Ki-Low-Na
Friendship Society.
- Will review major activities and plans with the President to ensure that such
activity is in conformity to the objectives and policies of the Society.
- Will ensure that all recommendations and proposals brought before the Board of
Directors for consideration or action have the necessary and relevant background
information required in making an informed decision.
- Will manage the operations of the Society according to the priorities and policies
established by the Board of Directors and membership through the Annual
General Meeting.
- Will advise in the formulation of objectives, goals, and policies both long and short
term and other related functions which are designed to improve the Society's
effectiveness as an organization.
- Will regularly attend and be well-versed on Society cooperative projects, plans,
and other possible funding opportunities.
- Will provide input to the Board of Directors in the form of written briefings and/or
facilitate meetings as necessary on issues arising from information received from
external sources.
- Will facilitate and co-ordinate all meetings of the Board of Directors and its
Committees and will ensure that accurate minutes are maintained.
- Will ensure that administrative procedures are in place for the Society to function
in a professional and effective manner.
- Will work with and support management with their day-to-day needs and
challenges, professional growth and development, and with respect to funding
relationships and compliance with funder agreements.
- Will work with and support management with respect to matters of major
importance in their respective areas of responsibility, keeping them apprised of
major activities of the Society and discussing with them, in advance, any
contemplated action which may have a major effect upon their areas of
responsibility.
- Will ensure that the interests of the Society are protected in all activity linked to
the Society.
- Will coordinate department activities with other senior staff through regularly
scheduled team meetings.
- Will ensure that the Society operates within the budgetary parameters as
established by the Board of Directors.
Will ensure that an annual audit is conducted.
Will ensure that the Society is compliant with charitable and other not-for-profit
regulations as set out by Revenue Canada and the Province of British Columbia.
- In collaboration with the Director of Finance, provide the Board of Directors with
an accurate financial accounting of all expenditures at meetings of the Board of
Directors.
- Will maintain positive and timely relationships with all Society funders, Regulatory
Agencies, Community entity partners, Regional District and municipal bodies.
- Will ensure that the establishment and maintenance of positive working relations
with all levels of government, Indigenous organizations, as well as other
organizations and the public is deemed advisable and in the best interests of the
Society.
- Will represent the Society or delegate's representation to act on behalf of the
Society in negotiations or other official functions.
- Will develop and coordinate on behalf of the Board of Directors, all public relations
strategies and/or events.
- Will carry out and implement the responsibilities as set out in this position and
those other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience in a non-profit
organization or in a community-based organization.
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, non-profit management, or a
related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and
governance.
Proven track records of successful fundraising and financial management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage
diverse audiences.
- Sound judgment, problem solving and decision-making ability, especially in
difficult and crisis situations.
