As a Senior Forensic Identification Analyst in the Investigative Support Section, you will use various measurements or processes to establish the identity of persons under the authority of the Identification of Criminals Act. Primary duties include:
- Obtain fingerprints, palm prints, mug shot photographs and descriptive information of all persons charged with Indictable Offences under the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Conduct tenprint and latent fingerprint searches on the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to confirm identity and to compare friction ridge impressions.
- Obtain blood samples or buccal samples from convicted persons for inclusion in the National DNA Data Bank.
- Track criminal charges through court on the Justice Online Information Network (JOIN) and update various record management systems.
- Attend various law enforcement and correctional facilities to complete the identification process and/or obtain DNA samples.
- Prepare necessary documentation and provide oral testimony for court proceedings.
Qualifications
- A 1 year certificate in Criminal Justice or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in a law enforcement environment involving fingerprints; OR
- A 2 year diploma in Criminal Justice or related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience in a law enforcement environment involving fingerprints; OR
- A degree program in Criminal Justice or related field and a minimum of 1 year of related experience in a law enforcement environment involving fingerprints.
- Must be eligible to obtain Community Peace Officer status under the Alberta Police Act.
- Knowledge and experience using law enforcement information systems such as Sentry or Niche-based Record Management Systems (RMS), Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Justice Online Information Network (JOIN) and Offender Records and Correctional Administration (ORCA) is preferred.
- Experience dealing with police personnel, persons charged with criminal offences, incarcerated persons and difficult persons in general is considered an asset.

Working Conditions: Regular exposure to health risks, bodily fluids, profanity, rudeness, insults, threats and physical altercations is common during the execution of their duties within the emotionally charged environment of in-custody facility.
Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 10 $ per hour
Days of Work: This is a 24-hour, 7-day per week
operation. Position works an average of 40 hours
per week over an 8-week cycle.
Hours of work: Non-Standard 40 hour work week
