Program Overview – Family Settlement Services, 1491 Danforth Ave, Toronto
The Settlement Services Specialist is responsible for two major components a) coordinating strategic initiatives, and case management of the clients and b) acting as community of practice lead for the Settlement Counsellor team.
This position ensures all qualitative and quantitative deliverables of the strategic initiatives and helps build a strong settlement service team with high service standards which will help clients successfully integrate into Canadian society. Provides settlement services to newcomer clients based on their assessed needs and provides supportive counselling in a timely manner.
What You Will Do
- Responsible for planning, executing and monitoring assigned strategic initiatives undertaken by the department. Participate in evaluating initiatives and make recommendations to management to enhance client impact and increase efficiency.
- Provides one on one needs assessments, information and orientation, group programs and referral services to newcomers and their families and links them with community resources in housing, healthcare, education, languages development, employment, career development, and recreation.
- Collaborate with relevant internal departments and external partners to ensure effective program delivery and reporting are done.
- Establish and oversee an ongoing Community of Practice for all staff involved in Settlement counselling in the Community Programs Unit, particularly within the Newcomer Services program. Focus will be on defining and implementing best practices, identifying and advocating for required training, developing policies and procedures, peer mentoring and coaching and other activities that enhance the professionalism and skill of staff.
- Represent the needs and perspectives of staff engaged in settlement counselling at WoodGreen to management and within internal/external initiatives, particularly the Newcomer Services Newcomer Wellbeing Model implementation.
- Assist staff to meet the standards of their role in settlement counselling and support the orientation and training of new settlement counsellors.
- Provide input to management on quality improvement, change management, recognition strategies and participate in implementation.
- Demonstrate best practices & expectations within their own case management work with clients.
- Staying up to date on current Newcomer services trends, client needs, Newcomer integration strategies and networking platforms.
- Ensures that all client data are entered to WoodGreen database and iCARE accurately and in a timely manner.
- Responsible for representing the unit on internal staff committees to collaborate with other CPU & WoodGreen teams ensuring optimum client service.
- Follow all agency Health and Safety Policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular supervisory sessions with Manager & participate in regular staff meetings
- Coach and empower team responsible for providing settlement counselling, leading by example to conduct intakes & develop Settlement Plans for clients.
- Develop excellent relationships with community partners to ensure all partners are aware of program details & activities.
- Schedule, prepare, update, and facilitate workshops & special events according to the goals of the program and clients' needs utilizing a variety of multimedia tools.
- Assist in tracking all program activity related to intake data, participation, milestones, outcomes, settlement support, and other required information.
- Case management and maintain client activity service statistical information for monthly reports.
- Perform other related duties as required by the Newcomer Service Management Team.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, Human resources management, or any related disciplines. A combination of education and relevant experience would be considered an asset.
- Project management experience will be an asset
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in program coordination or case management preferably in the field of newcomer settlement services.
- Fluency in a second language is a strong asset.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse clients and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience in supporting adult learners is an asset.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using computer applications and online platforms.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
