The South Fish Creek Recreation Association (SFCRA) is seeking an energetic and reliable Instructor – Homeschool Sports to deliver a weekly, structured multi-sport program for homeschool-aged children and youth. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy teaching, leading physical activity, and working with children in a supportive and inclusive recreation environment.

Homeschool Sports runs Tuesday mornings only and focuses on physical literacy, sport skill development, teamwork, and confidence-building through fun, age-appropriate instruction.

Program Schedule

  • Ages 6–9: Tuesdays, 9:00 AM – 10:20 AM
  • Ages 10–15: Tuesdays, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Program Type: Weekly, multi-sport instructional program

About the Role

As the Instructor – Homeschool Sports, you will be responsible for planning and leading engaging, developmentally appropriate multi-sport sessions for two age groups. Unlike a camp support role, this position focuses on instruction, skill development, and group leadership, ensuring participants build confidence, physical literacy, and a positive relationship with sport and movement.

You will create a welcoming and inclusive environment where homeschool participants feel supported, challenged, and motivated, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, structure, and fun.

This role also comes with potential opportunities to support additional SFCRA programs based on performance and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead structured, age-appropriate multi-sport lessons that promote physical literacy, teamwork, and skill development.
  • Adapt activities to meet varying skill levels, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment where all participants feel safe and supported.
  • Demonstrate strong group management and clear instruction during active programming.
  • Actively supervise participants to ensure safety at all times.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and communicate professionally with parents/guardians as needed.
  • Track attendance and complete required incident reports or documentation accurately and on time.
  • Communicate equipment, supply, or program needs to the Program Coordinator.
  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting respect, sportsmanship, and confidence.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading or instructing children or youth in sports, recreation, physical education, camps, or similar programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable leading physical activity for groups of children and youth.
  • Ability to manage groups safely and confidently in an active setting.
  • Reliable and available Tuesday mornings for the duration of the program.
  • Friendly, adaptable, and enthusiastic approach to working with children and families.
  • Valid Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and AED certification.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search.

Post-secondary education or training in Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, Child & Youth Care, or a related field is an asset.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
