Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate to Senior Estimator to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading tender pursuits, preparing accurate cost estimates, managing the bidding process, and ensuring competitive pricing strategies for various construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Bid Preparation: Develop competitive bids and proposals; coordinate with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
- Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks in project costs and timelines; recommend mitigation strategies.
- Budget Development: Assist in creating and maintaining project budgets aligned with client requirements.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Solicit, review, and negotiate quotes to ensure cost efficiency.
- Cost Control & Reporting: Track and report cost performance; provide variance analysis and corrective actions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project stakeholders, architects, engineers and third parties to provide design and costing input.
- Market Analysis: Stay updated on material costs, labor rates, and market trends for strategic pricing.
- Mentorship: Guide and mentor other estimators; share best practices and improve estimating processes.
- Improvement: Lead the charge on improving department processes and procedures
- Relationships: create, develop and foster relationships with sub-trades, consultants and owners.
- Strategy: Work closely with the Director of Estimating and the remainder of the Senior Leadership Group to strategize pursuits and hit company growth targets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in general contracting estimating, preferably in Multi-unit residential, long term care, commercial or industrial projects.
- Proficiency in estimating software
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with design-build and pre-construction services.
- Strong budgeting abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects, demanding tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to lead and mentor
