Advanced First Responder Lead

SUMMARY
The KO Advanced First Responder Lead has the responsibility of assisting the community members of Deer Lake First Nation by responding promptly and safely to accidents and emergencies. They will primarily be responsible for transporting casualties to the nursing station for emergency care and (if needed) to the airport to be flown out of community for advanced care. They will provide emergency/lifesaving care as necessary. The KO Advanced First Responder Lead will use a culturally sensitive and empathetic approach to contribute to the positive mental health, wellbeing, and resilience of KO community members. During non-emergencies, the KO Advanced First Responder Lead will assist at the nursing clinic.
PREQUISITES
AEMCA certification
Must have a valid Driver's license.
Minimum one year experience working as a paramedic
Satisfactory Criminal Reference check within 90 days
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists and supports Deer Lake paramedicine as required.
Work alongside NAPS, where appropriate
Respond immediately to accidents and emergencies.
Responds rapidly to radio transmissions / phone calls
Stabilizing sick or injured patients by providing first aid treatment and life support
Transport patients to nursing station
Transport patients from nursing station to airport if required
Transport patients to nursing station for regular appointments if nothing else urgent
Attends residences for scheduled visits (chronic disease management, blood pressure checks)
Attends residences for wellness checks
Jointly works alongside other teams such as Public Health , Home Care and Jordan's Principle
Available for on-call schedule
Travel will be on a rotational basis and schedule will be flexible based on applicant
Write and submit concrete and accurate reports on incidents
Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards
o Adhere to additional protocols presented by community
Must have an understanding of Indigenous culture/worldview and proceed with an empathetic approach
Attend relevant trainings when available.
Participate in regular team meetings, any other community worker meetings, meetings with Chief and Council and other service providers/emergency organizations as required.
Complete appropriate forms and documents for human resource management
Stays up-to-date with crisis / Indigenous Studies literature.
Assist with the development of this program using expertise as a community Paramedic
Other duties as required

The KO Advanced First Responder Lead is directly responsible to the Director of Nursing
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Paramedic Diploma from an accredited college
Mental Health First Aid
Knowledge of historical factors and trauma, e.g., residential schools, aspects of colonization, etc. that are relevant to the community's mental health and wellness challenges.
Ability to complete reporting requirements
Ability to administer Narcan / Naloxone
Experience working independently and, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
Excellent leadership, management, motivation, and problem-solving skills
Ability to utilize a culturally competent / empathetic approach when dealing with traumatic circumstances.
High level of adaptability
Ability to work well under pressure and under limited supervision
Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree, and Cree is an asset
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to demonstrate flexibility (this position will require flexible work hours)
Ability and willingness to travel to remote and isolated communities and work for extended durations.
Base hourly rate:$ $46.41 (based on years of northern experience) plus isolated post allowances
Work Location: Deer Lake
