The Senior Business Insights Analyst will be a part of the Affinity Business Insights team and will be tasked with packaging models, automating workflow, and operationalizing analytics solutions to generate business value to various parts of the JH/Manulife. The ideal candidate must be a sophisticated programmer with a good understanding of Data Science, Data Engineering, and DevOps.

Impact and Influence. The incumbent will take disparate data sources and transform them into meaningful dashboards, providing deeper insights into the business. They will work will drive data-informed decision-making and create efficiencies across teams. This is a greenfield opportunity to build data processes from the ground up, establishing best practices and improving operational workflows. With the autonomy to build, refine, and enhance reporting structures, they will play a key role in shaping long-term success.

Position Responsibilities

  • Reporting and analytics. Deliver actionable insights by creating and managing ad hoc queries and reports from various data sources to support organizational decision-making. Design and implement dashboards that provide real-time visibility into key metrics, ensuring stakeholders can access the information they need. Collaborate with teams to identify reporting needs, streamline data visualization, and drive a culture of data-informed decision-making.

  • Data quality. Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across the organization. Identify and address gaps between current data and the desired state through data cleansing, enrichment, and validation processes. Establish robust governance standards to maintain integrity and compliance. Collaborate with teams to align data practices with organizational goals and promote data literacy and best practices.

  • System Implementation. Play a key role in the adoption of new systems and technologies to support operational efficiency. Whether integrating a CRM, optimizing data platforms, or refining internal tools, ensure seamless implementation and alignment with business needs.

  • Efficiency, Automation, and Business Impact. Beyond traditional data responsibilities, this position will support broader business initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve workflows and reduce manual effort. Lead and project manage initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and drive business growth. Work cross-functionally, track and measure the impact of process improvements, ensuring continuous optimization and alignment with organizational goals.   • Provide support to business areas, investigating operational related problems/inquiries, and recommending and implementing solutions.

  • Develop business requirement documents and specifications.

  • Work as directed by management team to research and document business issues involving workflow procedures and processes.

  • Analyze data and work with management to develop creative solutions.

  • Coordinate recommended process changes, enhancements and product implementations including test plans to ensure successful implementation.

  • Act as business unit liaison with other business units including Information Systems, etc.

  •  Assume the role of technical expert responsible for developing and guiding more junior team members.

  • Identify and recommend staff training needs in response to process changes or new product/system implementations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Expert level experience with PowerBI.

  • Hands-on experience with large-scale systems in software engineering.

  • Familiarity with big data processing and building data APIs. Experience with automated data quality frameworks is a plus.

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases and SQL.

  • Experience working with cloud native architecture (PaaS) using Azure stack preferably and experience with Azure ML, DataBricks (Spark), Azure Data Factory will be an asset.

  • Experience in building ETL pipelines to perform feature engineering on large-scale dataset using Spark.

  • Good understanding of project management methodologies and workflow design.

  • Ability to influence and negotiate with others to meet project deadlines.

  • Understanding of system design and analysis and user testing.

  •  Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders representing a broad range of functions and levels.

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues relevant to business unit.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical ability.

  • Project-specific decisions, working with the business.

  • Prioritizing and reprioritizing work deliverables and projects for external clients based on changing deadlines, costs, and scope of projects.

  • Managing internal and external resources, clients and advisors to achieve targets.

  • An ability to balance a sense of urgency with shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions.

Salary range is expected to be between

$71,925.00 CAD - $119,875.00 CAD
