Job Summary

The Lease Hand is an integral member of the drilling crew, responsible for general labor duties and support operations on the rig. This role is physically demanding and involves maintaining a clean and organized core shack, processing core samples, and assisting the Driller and other crew members during drilling operations. The Lease Hand ensures that all tasks are performed efficiently while adhering to safety protocols.

The Lease Hand position requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational efficiency. This role demands physical endurance and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Lease Hands must possess attention to detail, particularly when processing core samples and maintaining accurate records. A successful Lease Hand is proactive, organized, and dedicated to supporting the drilling crew while ensuring all tasks contribute to optimal drilling performance and a safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • If you have a Saskatchewan Driver's License, a G Endorsement is required. If you do not possess this endorsement, you will be asked to obtain it during onboarding.
  • Basic knowledge of drilling operations and core processing is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a drilling support role is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under pressure.
  • Relevant Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR Level C, H2S Alive, Hoisting and Rigging, Ground Disturbance 2, CSO/BSO/OSSA, Wilderness Awareness, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and Fire Safety.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment as needs.
  • Comfortable with begin on the road for extended periods of time.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and potential hazards immediately to the Driller.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Exercise the right to refuse dangerous work and report work refusals to the supervisor.

Personnel Management

  • Communicate effectively with the Driller and crew to ensure readiness for tasks.
  • Follow the chain of command for addressing concerns, first reporting to the Driller.
  • Assist in mentoring new team members as required.

Operations Management

  • Maintain a clean and organized core shack and ensure the floor is free of mud, ice, and tripping hazards.
  • Assist in drilling operations, including passing and securing inner tubes, measuring core recovery, and recording results accurately.
  • Support the Driller and Floor Hand by anticipating their needs and providing timely assistance.

Supply Management

  • Ensure core shack supplies (e.g., rags, markers, tape, gloves) are well-stocked at the start and end of each shift.
  • Notify the Driller of any additional supplies needed.
  • Keep tools and equipment organized and in good repair.

Communication and Reporting

  • Record core recovery data and communicate findings to the Driller immediately.
  • Maintain clear communication with the drilling team regarding tasks and operations.
  • Document and report any health, safety, or environmental incidents promptly.

Equipment and Resource Management

  • Perform regular checks on tools and equipment, reporting any deficiencies to the Driller.
  • Assist in maintaining and cleaning core processing equipment and tools.
  • Participate in rig moves and other logistical operations as needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in team efforts aimed at achieving operational goals and zero incidents.
  • Seek opportunities for skill enhancement and contribute to process improvements.
  • Collaborate with the team to foster a positive work environment.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: From $38.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 80 per week
