Job Overview – Supply Cook (Childcare Centre)

We are seeking a dedicated, energetic Supply Cook to join our Childcare Centre team In this vital role, you will support the daily food service operation by planning, preparing, and delivering nutritious meals that meet all dietary, allergy, and regulatory requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with CCEYA requirements, in consultation with the Centre Supervisor.
  • Cook meals and select appropriate recipes while strictly adhering to allergy, anaphylaxis, and dietary restriction guidelines.
  • Prepare suitable menu substitutions for children with allergies or individual dietary needs.
  • Ensure adequate food supplies are available daily and report inventory needs to supervisors.
  • Post daily menus and record any substitutions made throughout the day.
  • Ensure all Individual Anaphylaxis Plans (IAPs), allergy lists, and food restrictions are up to date, clearly posted, understood, and strictly followed.
  • Prepare and serve daily lunches and snacks for all children enrolled at the childcare centre.
  • Remove food, collect plates and utensils, and maintain cleanliness during each scheduled meal.
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store all dishes, utensils, and equipment.
  • Maintain health and safety records as required.
  • Operate and maintain the kitchen in full compliance with Public Health inspection requirements.
  • Incorporate light housekeeping duties into daily routines to maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Support special events or centre activities requiring food preparation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Handling and Preparation (valid Food Handler Certification required).
  • Health and Safety Certificate preferred.
  • Prior experience preparing meals in a childcare, institutional, or commercial kitchen setting is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Public Health Guidelines, food safety standards, and the Canada Food Guide.
  • Experience cooking for large groups.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with social and multicultural sensitivity.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Medical requirements including two-stage TB test (within 6 months of hire).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday as required.
