The Opportunity:
Are you a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with an analytical approach to problem solving? Do you have experience providing administrative support in a court or legal related environment? If so, we are excited to share with you a fantastic opportunity as a Disclosure Clerk for Court Services within the Toronto Police Service.
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role you will be responsible in support of Criminal, Federal and Provincial case management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Retrieves, searches and updates information from various databases and applications including Versadex, eJust, Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Integrated Court Offences Network (ICON) to fulfill crown requests.
- Reviews and validates all disclosure to ensure that the required information and evidentiary materials, including written statements, memo book notes, photographs, audio/video recordings, witness statements etc., are contained in the case. Redacts all personal identifiers of victims, witnesses and young offenders.
- Coordinates requests, receipts and submissions of all disclosure within established guidelines.
- Responsible for updating the ongoing status of cases. Creates the court information and supporting documents that are filed with the Ontario Court of Justice.
- Problem solves disclosure deficiencies with Service members and outside agencies.
- Updates the Centre of Forensic Sciences and Health Canada with case statuses, when appropriate.
- Processes various documents to facilitate court processes including, bench warrants, Peace Bonds and trial notifications etc.
- Assists in other areas or other court locations when required.
- Addresses inquiries and provides guidance on court processes.
- Performs all other duties, functions and assignments inherent to the position.
How do I qualify?
Education/Experience:
- Successful completion of Grade 12 (OSSD) - post secondary education preferred
- Minimum of one year of related experience (preferably within a court, policing or law enforcement environment)
Skills/Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when updating case file information.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills are essential to provide support and guidance.
- Working knowledge of CPIC, Versadex, eJust and ICON is preferred
- Familiarity with legal terminology and criminal court processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with members of the Service, outside agencies and the public.
- Ability to work co-operatively within a team environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to prioritize, multitask, work within established time frames and meet deadlines.
- An understanding of the court disclosure process is an asset.
