Position Summary

This role must have Forklift certificate

Pacific Coast Express Limited has openings at our Surrey location for a Forklift Operator person. This position is an important support role in the operations department.

Shift: Monday – Friday : 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Description & Responsibilities are as follows,

As a forklift operator you would be responsible for ensuring the proper, safe and timely handling of inbound and outbound trailers within the Terminal Yard. The successful candidate must ensure they maintain a clean work environment with a focus on proper handling techniques and safety.

• The remainder of the shift is to be spent on a forklift unloading and loading trailers as assigned by the supervisor.

• The potential hire must be willing and able to do both types of work.

• Move trailers to and from the dock doors

• Park and organize equipment in the yard

• Conduct a yard check which includes recording trailer numbers, fuel levels, trailer contents, and seal numbers

• Seal trailers and verify security bolt seal number

• Ensure yard is clean and operated in a safe manner

• Assist highway and city drivers with locating, positioning and other equipment requirements

• Regularly assist in the warehouse

• Moving and handling of large and cumbersome shipments in a warehouse environment lbs.)

• Operate a Forklift in congested areas – unloading and loading trailers

• Vigilant to observe and report any incidents of safety violation or security breaches

• Other related duties as may be required

Experience and Qualifications

• Physically suited to the nature of the work, which includes sustaining repetitive motion and manual labor with periods of peak physical exertion, bending, lifting and carrying weights up to 75 pounds, twisting, turning, reaching overhead

• Must possess and wear at all times appropriate personal protective safety equipment including approved steel-toed boots or footwear, gloves, suitable work clothing which provides protection against normal hazards in an industrial workplace

• Class 1 license required with applicable experience

• Forklift Certification required

• English language fluency and literacy skills: reading, writing and comprehension of written and verbal instructions; effective written and verbal communications to co-workers and supervisors

• Numerical skills: basic arithmetic comprehension including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

• Aptitude for working safely with mechanical equipment and systems

• Plans and organizes workload effectively, sustains productive work

• Displays attentiveness to hazards, duties and thoroughness of work, forms and reports

• Dependable and reliable, with prior work record for regular attendance and punctuality

Prior industrial work experience is an asset for this position
