Join our team as a Bilingual Payroll Manager In this role, you'll overseeing and optimizing all aspects of the payroll function within the FYihealth group in Canada and USA. With their perspective of delivering an exceptional employee experience when it comes to pay, the Payroll Manager plays a critical and strategic role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and payroll transactions, compliance with regulations, and the implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness with automation, standardization, and industry best practices. You'll provide mentorship, coaching and development to the payroll team to create a high performing, collaborative, and service-oriented team.

This position is open to candidates located anywhere in Canada.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Ensuring payroll functions are delivered consistently and effectively to over 4000 salaried and hourly staff, across multiple jurisdictions in Canada and the United States
  • Building, creating, and developing adequate processes and procedures and financial controls within the Payroll Team and ensure they are functioning, maintained, and monitored to minimize risk and error as well as ensure compliance
  • Implementing processes to ensure the accuracy and maintenance of all employee data and payment records
  • Ensuring data protection measures are in place to safeguard employee information
  • Managing the year end audit, including month end and year end closing accruals and payroll account reconciliations
  • Managing and dealing with tax compliance matters for payroll, employer health tax, and WCB remittances and fillings
  • Liaising with external organizations such as CRA, Revenue Quebec, IRS, DOL, EDD and various provincial workers' compensation boards as required
  • Approving all payroll reconciliations and generation of year-end tax forms and payroll withholding
  • Emphasizing efficiency, automation, employee experience, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborating with Digital Experience team to develop payroll products in a way that support the overall organizational and payroll strategy
  • Collaborating with the benefits team to develop and execute strategies that streamline benefits and payroll processes and increase accuracy and overall employee experience
  • Collaborating with the finance team to create and enhance reporting for financial forecasting and business intelligence needs
  • Proactively identify opportunities and implement improvements to enhance the employee payroll experience
  • Continuously assessing payroll processes and seek opportunities to streamline and automate tasks by utilizing technology to ensure scalability
  • Providing leadership, guidance, training and direction to payroll specialists and the payroll accountant
  • Setting performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations
  • Coaching and mentoring team members to enhance their skills and achieve their full potential
  • Fostering a positive, engaging and growth-oriented work environment that encourages teamwork, innovation, collaboration, and employee development
  • Resolving conflicts and address employee concerns in a fair and timely manner

As the Successful Candidate You Have:

  • Bilingualism (French/English) is required to communicate on a daily basis with team members across Canada
  • A minimum of 7 years of end-to-end in-house payroll management experience specifically related to full cycle payroll processing for Canada and USA (California) including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Exceptional understanding of employment and payroll as well as common law practices
  • Proficiency in payroll, HRIS, time tracking and accounting software
  • Lead or support projects related to payroll system upgrades or HCM system implementation
  • Payroll accounting experience
  • Proficient in Excel with the ability to analyze and interpret complex data
  • Experience with UKG Pro is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership and ability to build a highly engaged, cohesive team culture
  • Proven track record of driving innovation and process improvement and automation in payroll operations
  • Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic planning skills
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
