About Us
The Prince Albert Islamic Association (PAIA) is the central Islamic organization serving the Muslim community of Prince Albert and surrounding areas in Saskatchewan. Our growing community of 150–200 Muslim families includes a vibrant and increasing number of youth.
Our mission is to provide spiritual guidance, promote Islamic education, foster unity, and serve as a beacon of faith, knowledge, and service. The mosque operates as a hub for worship, learning, and social engagement.
We are seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate Imam to lead our community in its next phase of spiritual and social growth. PAIA is also planning to expand its children's and youth Islamic education programs, with the goal of developing a full-time madrasa or Islamic school in the future.
- Position Summary
The Imam will serve as the spiritual leader and primary religious authority for PAIA. This is a full-time role encompassing religious leadership, community engagement, educational development, and pastoral care.
The ideal candidate is approachable, inspiring, and service-oriented, capable of engaging all segments of our diverse community—children, youth, families, converts, and seniors—while positively representing Islam within the wider Prince Albert society.
- Core Duties and Responsibilities
A. Spiritual Leadership & Worship
Lead the five daily prayers, Jumu'ah, Taraweeh, and Eid prayers.
Deliver engaging and well-prepared Khutbahs (sermons) in English and Arabic, addressing contemporary and traditional Islamic topics.
Provide spiritual counseling and guidance on personal, marital, and family matters.
Conduct Islamic rites and ceremonies including Nikah, Janazah, Aqeeqah, and other religious functions.
B. Islamic Education & Development
Teach Qur'an, Seerah, Aqeedah, and Islamic manners (Adab) to children and youth.
Develop a structured curriculum focusing on faith, character, and moral development.
Offer adult learning sessions (e.g., Tafsir, Fiqh, Arabic classes) as feasible.
Organize family and youth programs such as Halaqahs, storytelling, calligraphy, and workshops on Islamic etiquette.
Provide Fatwa and religious advice grounded in authentic sources and a balanced, mainstream understanding of Islam.
C. Community Engagement & Outreach
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members.
Build and maintain positive relationships with interfaith groups, local organizations, and civic bodies.
Represent the mosque at public and community events, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
Develop outreach and educational initiatives to raise awareness about Islam in the wider community.
Encourage volunteerism and active participation in mosque activities.
D. Presence and Accessibility
Maintain a visible and regular presence at the mosque, especially during weekends and major Islamic occasions.
Be accessible and approachable to community members for guidance and support.
Participate in community gatherings, home visits, and youth engagement activities.
E. Administrative & Organizational Support
Collaborate with the Executive Committee on religious programming and community development.
Advise on religious aspects of mosque operations and policy.
Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers for educational and community programs.
Support fundraising and community-building initiatives.
- Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies, Shariah, or related field from an accredited Islamic institution. Traditional Ijazah or equivalent scholarly training will also be considered.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of Qur'an, Sunnah, Fiqh, Aqeedah, and Seerah.
Language: Fluency in English (spoken and written) and proficiency in Arabic for Qur'an recitation and classical texts.
Experience: Minimum 1–3 years as an Imam, Assistant Imam, or Islamic Educator, ideally in a North American or multicultural context.
Personal Qualities: High moral character, humility, integrity, compassion, and a strong sense of community service. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
Experience in youth mentorship, outreach, and community engagement.
Basic administrative, IT, and social media skills.
Familiarity with diverse cultural backgrounds within the Muslim community.
- Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Paid time off and on-site accommodation available: A 3-bedroom house is provided. The imam is responsible only for utility costs.
Two days off per week.
Relocation assistance may be available for out-of-province candidates.
