Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will support patient care, assist with clinical and administrative tasks, and ensure smooth clinic operations. Duties

  • Greet and assist patients during their visit, ensuring a welcoming experience
  • Conduct intake procedures, including collecting patient history and verifying insurance information
  • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation levels
  • Assist with ophthalmic testing and preliminary assessments using EMR systems like Epic and other electronic medical records (EMR) platforms
  • Maintain aseptic techniques to ensure a sterile environment during examinations and procedures
  • Support optical services by assisting with frame selection, lens measurements, and retail sales of eyewear products
  • Manage medical records accurately, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of patient information
  • Perform front desk duties including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and managing patient flow
  • Support billing and coding processes related to ophthalmology services and pediatrics as needed
  • Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and product options while promoting retail sales when appropriate

Requirements

  • Prior experience in medical office settings, ophthalmology or optometry preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmic procedures
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Experience with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and aseptic techniques
  • Retail sales experience with skills in retail math is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills for front desk interactions and patient education
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Knowledge of medical billing, coding, and clinic operations is advantageous
  • Experience working with pediatric patients is desirable
