Intermediate Financial Analyst - FP&A
Location: Hybrid - Toronto, ON or Kingston, ON
Empire Life is looking to hire an Intermediate Financial Analyst to join our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team.
The Intermediate Financial Analyst reports to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis, within Corporate Finance. The FP&A team is responsible for planning, analysis, and ongoing reporting of financial performance on behalf of the CFO. This role supports critical FP&A functions and partners with internal stakeholders to deliver key elements of our financial planning and performance analysis. What you'll be working on
- Responsible for timely and accurate production of management and board reporting
- Produce scheduled management reports and supporting financial analysis, including performance against forecast, plan, and prior year to support ongoing and ad-hoc business performance management.
- Conduct financial and performance analysis, e.g. variance analysis, assessing key drivers and trends, and communicate findings to management.
- Maintain and enhance financial models and analyses that support management reporting activities, peer benchmarking, and reporting requirements under IFRS17.
- Engage with business line management and actuarial partners to support the development of annual expense budgets, revenue plan, and forecasts.
- Help ensure business results are well understood, including their impact on overall financial performance and implications for planning and forecasting decisions.
- Research and provide technical FP&A support and guidance
- Assist in developing analytical solutions and recommendations based on an understanding of business strategy, stakeholder needs, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide support on enterprise-wide accounting and finance initiatives (e.g., ERP transformation, process efficiencies, automation, etc.).
- Liaise with lines of business stakeholders as needed to gather information and provide financial insight.
- Support with ad hoc financial and analytical requests.
- Support the regular delivery of external stakeholder reporting, including submissions to regulators and rating agencies.
- Support business initiatives and process improvement projects.
- Perform defined processes and operational controls as outlined in department process documentation.
- Maintain and improve procedures and process documentation to ensure they are effective and up to date.
What we're looking for you to have
- Bachelor's degree in business is required, preference for Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- 2-3 years of work experience in the finance or insurance industry, preferably in FP&A or a similar analytical role
- Pursuing CPA or CFA designation is an asset
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to manage large data sets from multiple sources/systems and build complex financial models
- Experience with PowerBI or other data visualization tools is an asset
- Experience with an ERP system in a Finance role is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and effectively
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to think logically, analyze and solve problems
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Tact, diplomacy and the ability to handle confidential information
