What you will bring:

· Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the long-term care home's infection prevention and control program in accordance with the appropriate legislation, regulations, and guidance documents to ensure compliance.

· Ensures the IPAC program in the home is consistent with standards, best practice and key principles established by applicable provincial standards, protocols, and policies.

· Convenes the Outbreak Management Team at the onset of the outbreak and regularly throughout. Works collaboratively with management, staff, residents, families, and Public Health to ensure the outbreak is managed effectively.

· Maintain the home's surveillance database and ensure the Administrator and Director of Care are updated on surveillance findings.

· Lead communication to staff, residents, and family members during an outbreak in collaboration with management; advise on IPAC practises to manage the outbreak.

· Implement changes to IPAC practices as needed.

· Ensure the hand hygiene program for residents has a resident-centered approach, with options.

· Track daily infection surveillance reports to ensure completion and monitor to detect any presence of infection and ensure the monthly surveillance reports are complete.

· Complete IPAC assessments in the home to ensure policies and procedures are followed including the cleaning of all surfaces.

· Educate staff, residents, volunteers, students and caregivers on the principles and practices of infection prevention and serve as a resource regarding infection prevention and control.

· Coordinate immunization campaigns for residents and staff in a timely manner and meet targets.

· Educate and audit staff compliance with infection prevention guidelines regarding the disposal of sharps and biomedical waste, use of personal protective equipment to include correct donning and doffing, effective hand hygiene practices and provide reports to leadership.

· Ensure the point of care risk assessments are being completed and masks are donned as required.

· Ensure the home's immunization policy for visiting pets is adhered to.

What We're Looking For:

· A Registered Nurse or bachelor's degree in another healthcare related field, e.g., Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Science, Medicine, or Occupational Health.

· Regulated Health Professional in good standing with respective regulatory college.

· Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).

· 3 years' experience in IPAC practices, including infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, data collection and trend analysis, reporting protocols, outbreak management, adult education, and program management.

· Bilingualism is an asset.

· High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles.

· Strong commitment to staff and resident privacy.

· Clear Tuberculosis testing within the last 2 years; Step 1 & 2; or an X-Ray from the last 5 years showing a clear result.

· Provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

· Proof of current immunizations according to Plan A policy.
